He wanted a way to link and access information across different computers, so researchers could share documents with one another.

This would later be known as the World Wide Web.

Before this discovery, information was stuck within the computer it lived in. If you wanted information, you had to physically go retrieve it.

One Monday morning, I walked in to find our engineers huddling over a workbench. What caught my attention was seeing them press a single button, and hearing the hum of relays and data moving through the system, followed by the sound of a Zebra Technologies printer producing a label.

They combined custom logic, a functional tester, a computer, our Expert I/O 1000, and a Zebra printer to create a production-ready functional testing station for our Expert I/O 1000s.

What was once just a functional tester was now part of an entire living organism.

On March 10th, 1876, the first intelligible words were transmitted over a telephone by Alexander Graham Bell and his assistant, Thomas Watson.

“Mr. Watson, come here; I want you.”

This simple transaction proved that something organic, like voice, could be turned into an electrical signal and sent somewhere else.

Today, systems like remote equipment monitoring, SCADA platforms, and networked machines rely on the same idea. Signals travel, and the systems respond.

March 16, 1926. Robert H. Goddard launches the first liquid-propellant rocket.

The fuel flow of Goddard's rocket was controlled using a pressure-fed system that regulated liquid fuel intake throughout the flight.

What was so different about this?

Before this launch, rockets had one-time ignition systems fueled with gunpowder, very similar to fireworks.

Goddard wasn't just launching something; he was managing a system.

This launch helped open the doors for larger ideas such as system control, management, and stabilization.
