This week, we celebrated Professional Engineers (PE) Day, a time to recognize the dedication and expertise of licensed engineers who help shape the communities we serve.

At CPJ, we are proud of our team of Professional Engineers and the leadership they bring to every project. We’re equally committed to supporting the next generation of engineers as they work toward earning their professional licenses, with opportunities for growth, mentorship, and career development along the way.

Thank you to our PEs—and those on the path to licensure—for the impact you make every day.

CPJ was proud to join police staff, council members, and Mayor Linda Monroe for the groundbreaking of the Chamber Avenue Project in The Town of Capitol Heights, MD. This long-anticipated initiative marks a major step forward in community beautification and sustainable infrastructure.

As Town Engineer, CPJ is helping guide improvements including widened, ADA-compliant sidewalks, enhanced drainage solutions, and the installation of a bioretention facility that will naturally filter roadway runoff before it reaches the Chesapeake Bay. We’re excited to see this space transform into a self-sustaining, environmentally conscious asset for the community.

Happy Park and Recreation Professionals Day!

At CPJ, we’re proud to support the planning and design of spaces that bring communities together and enhance quality of life. Today, we’re recognizing the professionals who make that possible.

Brian Shadrick, Planning Manager, and Hoang Ta, Stream Restoration and Natural Resources Specialist, play a key role in our Greenbelt public sector office. They deliver thoughtful, innovative solutions that balance community growth with environmental stewardship across Maryland. Their work reflects our commitment to crafting spaces that are not only functional, but lasting, resilient, and meaningful. We’re proud to have them on our team.

Investing in the next generation of professionals is something we look forward to every summer, and this year is no exception.

We’re excited to welcome our 2026 Summer Interns: Zeke White (Inspections), Matthew Kuhns (IT), Philip R. Hughes, IV (Engineering), and Alexander Hughes (IT). From day one, they’ve brought fresh perspectives, strong curiosity, and a willingness to jump in and learn, qualities that make a real impact on our team.

At CPJ, internships are more than just a summer experience; they’re an opportunity to gain hands-on exposure, build meaningful connections, and take the first steps toward a career in the industry. We’re proud to support their growth and can’t wait to see what they accomplish.

We’re back from the Maryland Municipal League 2026 Summer Conference!

Our team had a great time reconnecting with many of the municipalities we’re proud to partner with and establishing new relationships with others across the state. With key officials representing over 160 local governments, the conference was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore innovative engineering solutions that strengthen infrastructure and enhance quality of life throughout Maryland.

From resilient stormwater management to sustainable site design and community-focused planning, we’re excited to keep the momentum going and continue supporting Maryland’s communities through thoughtful, forward-thinking engineering.

We are pleased to share that this May, Brice Forest, a member of our Engineering Department, was recognized at the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers (MDSPE) Newly Licensed Engineers Event.

The event brought together Maryland’s engineering community to recognize newly licensed professionals and celebrate this important career milestone. We were especially proud to be there in support of Brice as they reached this achievement.

A highlight of the evening was the Order of the Engineer ceremony, where Brice received their steel ring, symbolizing their pledge to uphold the integrity, ethics, and responsibility that come with being an engineer. It was a meaningful moment to witness and celebrate together.

Congratulations to Brice on earning their Professional Engineer (PE) license, a testament to their dedication, expertise, and commitment to the engineering profession. We are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to all they will accomplish in their career.

Last week, our team attended the Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA) Stormwater Seminar to stay up to date on the latest developments in stormwater management and connect with the many clients, partners, and industry peers we regularly work with across the region.

As an organization dedicated to improving water quality and protecting the water environment across Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., the Chesapeake WEA plays an important role in advancing education, collaboration, and technical expertise within our industry.

In addition to networking, we attended several informative technical sessions, including “From Hotspot to Watershed,” which highlighted evolving approaches to watershed-scale planning and management. Experiences like this help us bring informed, forward-thinking solutions back to our projects.

As we celebrate Construction Safety Week, today we are taking part in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls. Falls remain one of the leading causes of worker fatalities and life-altering injuries in our industry.

The most concerning part is that nearly all fall-related incidents are preventable with the right preparation, equipment, communication, and awareness. Fall protection only works when it’s used correctly, every single time. No shortcuts. No exceptions.

Speaking up, slowing down, and choosing the safer action every time is what prevents falls, protects one another, and ensures everyone makes it home safely at the end of the day.

On Tuesday, April 14, CPJ’s own Sean Peiffer, LS and Hannah Corson joined a delegation of surveyors from Virginia to participate in the NSPS - The National Society of Professional Surveyors Day on the Hill!

More than 100 surveyors from 46 states came together in Washington, D.C. to advocate for the profession and engage directly with congressional representatives. As part of the Virginia delegation, they met with the offices of several Virginia members of congress, including Northern Virginia representatives Congressman James Walkinshaw and Eugene Vindman to discuss key issues impacting the industry.

Discussions focused on workforce development, the importance of high-definition mapping and survey-related sciences at the federal level, and protecting field professionals from emerging hazards such as Alpha-Gal Syndrome.

At CPJ, we’re proud to support efforts that promote, protect, and advance the future of land surveying.
