For a landfill RNG facility in Georgia, ESI provided the full suite of engineering services, including process, mechanical, electrical, and controls design, for a plant built to handle 6,000 scfm of raw landfill gas and deliver 3,000 scfm of RNG. The design went beyond a standard MEP package, with a complete 3D facility model, spool by spool pipe fabrication drawings, point to point cable termination drawings, and thorough pipe support drawings.

It was the fifth full service RNG project ESI completed with the same developer. As a true third party engineer, we believe the technology has to fit the project, not the other way around.

Hopkins is open. ESI's turnkey RNG facility at the Hopkins County landfill in Kentucky just closed its first full month of commercial operations, delivering pipeline-quality gas on schedule. It's the ninth RNG facility ESI's field team has delivered.

Landfills just became the backbone of U.S. biogas.

New 2026 data from the American Biogas Council shows landfills make up less than a quarter of U.S. biogas facilities but generate roughly three quarters of all biogas captured for energy, and nearly all new projects are being built for RNG. Still, 73% of landfill gas facilities are generating electricity or heat instead, which may be leaving real value on the table. ESI has been evaluating conversions like this since 2007, and we can help you find out if the numbers make sense for your site.

Built on people.

For Noah Pearcy, O&M is about more than keeping equipment running - it's about taking ownership, solving problems, and being someone your team can count on.

Noah started in the field at 19, helping build RNG facilities from the ground up, and has now stepped into a new role as Technical Services Manager on ESI's O&M team. When a critical compressor failed, he loaded it on a trailer and drove it to the manufacturer in Ohio himself to fast-track the rebuild. When Hurricane Helene shut a facility down for two weeks, he cut his way into town, checked on his operators first, then drove 90 minutes to find cell service and confirm his team was safe.

That's the ESI approach: finding the problem is only the beginning - the goal is the solution. It's backed by an O&M organization of 70+ operators and deep experience.

As Noah puts it: "We have people on the ground that provide value to asset owners. That's what we do."

Building an RNG facility creates the asset. Keeping it running creates the value.

ESI designed and built two renewable natural gas facilities in the southeastern U.S. - then stayed on to operate them. One sits near the pipeline and runs "steady as a rock." The other, 18 miles from the nearest pipeline, runs as a virtual pipeline: RNG compressed into trailers, hauled to a decant site, and injected there - roughly three loads a day, where every load that moves on time is revenue protected.

The ESI philosophy: take ownership of the outcome - because every clean operating day can mean $200,000 to $300,000 in revenue.

Backed by an O&M team of 70+ operators, the result is an estimated 97% uptime across the portfolio.

The AI boom has a power problem. Landfills have power.

Data center developers facing five-year-plus interconnection queues have started generating power on-site - roughly 101 GW of behind-the-meter natural gas generation has already been announced. When power is the constraint, energy that's already sitting there gets interesting.

And there's a lot of it: most of America's 598 landfill gas facilities generate proven, dispatchable renewable baseload - yet per the EPA, over 70% of the country's ~2,600 municipal landfills still make no beneficial use of their methane. On-site compute doesn't need a grid connection, and the EPA now promotes onsite data centers at landfills as a bridge model, with flows as low as 100 scfm potentially qualifying.

The part we don't have to speculate about: ESI has already built an off-grid landfill-gas-to-energy microgrid for a Utah client - no grid connection at all.

Distributed renewable baseload for modular and edge compute, bridge revenue during an RNG buildout, generation at compute-grade uptime - that's the work ESI has done since 2007.
