Northern Interstate Construction, Inc.

Northern Interstate Construction, Inc. NIC is one of Northern Wisconsin’s largest Heavy Civil specialty contractors. Northern Interstate Construction, Inc.

(NIC) was founded in 1985 and incorporated in the state of Wisconsin in 1986, by brothers Bruce and Bill Johnson. Bruce and Bill gained experience by working for their father, Wayne Johnson, an owner of DL Johnson Construction in the 1970's and 1980's. The brothers founded NIC to continue the family's tradition of construction after DL Johnson was purchased by RJS Construction Group in the 1980's.

NIC began to grow in the late 80's by taking on DOT projects in northern Wisconsin. The company specialized in bridge demolition and road work as a "closed shop" corporation. After 35 years, NIC has continued to grow and is now in its second generation of ownership with Bruce's son, Blake Johnson, and Bill's Son, Justin Johnson, as owners. The company is signatory to the Operating Engineers (Locals 139 and 49), the Teamsters (Local 346), and Laborers (Local 1091) in Building Trades, Non-Metallic Mining, and Highway & Heavy divisions. NIC is licensed, bonded, and insured for demolition, utility, and earthwork in both Wisconsin and Minnesota.
