Topic: SPC-Statistical Process Control by Sam Bell (Vice President of Metal Surfaces Inc)
..Should a floor person (electroplater) have to deal with all the details SPC? He does not! ...When sampling, we take 5 parts (no more than 10)..Stay in the green range, you meet Sigma..Outside the green range, adjustments are needed either by adding chemistry or talking to the laboratory ...We think in terms of quality assurance, “control” is almost impossible since electroplating is so dynamic ..Pre-Control charts are in place to prevent re-works and to meet the specification ..”Machinist” think in terms of dimensions and ”Electroplaters” think in terms of build-up and distribution... Every industry and processing have their own particularities

His motto to us was ....”Always volunteer to stay ahead”. It was a honor to meet Chuck Reynolds (founder of Micel Chemicals aka Miles) a true metal finishing volunteer of 30 years both local and national positions. He donated items to SFEA library - a wooden rectifier panel, antique metal finishing decor, and 1973-79 gold anvil “AESF-Forging Ahead Award”.

Alum-A-Coat Anodizing and SFEA JANUARY 2019 MEETING was packed with exceptional technical information: “COMMON SALT SPRAY TEST FAILURES - Why do They Happen?” - Frank Altmayer.

Topic Review: The salt spray test is often described as unreliable and imprecise, especially when it is used to comply with aerospace specifications such as those published by Boeing. Companies have frequently asked what they can do to pass Boeing salt spray requirements.

Aprox. 35 people in attendance from the metal finishing industry, chemist, inventors, electroplaters, and suppliers.
