There are plenty of vacuum hose solutions available. If you look through our catalog, you may question what the differences between our products are. Ask no further; this is your one-stop guide to understanding the differences. Our vacuum-rated products vary in reinforcement type. We offer helical spiral reinforcement and steel wire reinforcement options.
Our light-duty Newflex VFH is a coextruded construction of a plasticized primary layer of PVC with a white helical spiral rigid PVC along the outside diameter for structural reinforcement. By constructing the hose in this manner, it allows some flexibility to be maintained from the plasticized PVC while strengthening it from collapsing with the rigid PVC. Due to the nature of this construction, there is resistance to moderate vacuum; however, when the hose is exposed to a positive internal pressure, it will fail as the hose is not intended for use in these types of applications.
For standard-duty applications, there is a spiral-reinforced flexible PVC offering that is a single-material construction with a convoluted exterior reinforcement; this is our Newflex FH. Much like the Newflex VFH, this hose has the reinforcement as a helical spiral along the outside diameter of the hose. Due to the design of this reinforcement, it is capable of withstanding greater vacuum pressures than the VFH and can be used with positive internal pressures as well.
For heavy-duty food applications, the Newflex FHS product line is the answer. A clear helix also acts as reinforcement in this product, though both the inner diameter and outer diameter are both smooth. The helix is encapsulated with the plasticized PVC reducing the potential of stress concentrators as well as improving the ability of cleaning the exterior surface. In addition to food grade, an industrial option is available with a white internal helix.
When it comes to high vacuum applications, that is where the Vardex product excels. Our Vardex product line has a steel wire fully encapsulated in the wall of the PVC hose, so both the internal and external diameters are smooth. The wire provides the strength to withstand full vacuum while the plasticized PVC still maintains a level of flexibility allowing for use in more robust applications.
