💡 One question changes everything when you’re adding a basement bathroom: does your basement already have a plumbing rough-in? A rough-in means drain lines were capped under the slab during original construction.

If you have one, bathroom costs are significantly lower — no slab cutting required. If you don’t, new drain lines mean cutting into the concrete, which adds real cost, real disruption, and has to be planned before framing.

The second thing homeowners often overlook? Venting. Every drain needs a vent, and in a basement bathroom, how that’s handled needs to be confirmed before walls close.

The original bathroom had a separate toilet closet, a linen closet, and a soffit. All of it made the room feel small and broken up. We removed everything, opened the layout, and rebuilt from there.

Here's what the scope covered:

✅ Toilet closet walls, door, soffit, and linen closet — all removed
✅ New shower with half wall, bench, and two recessed niches
✅ Wall tile to the ceiling throughout the entire bathroom
✅ New vanity, smart toilet, lighted medicine cabinet
✅ New recessed lighting, exhaust fan, and window
✅ Hallway patched and painted where the linen closet opening was closed

The half wall on the shower was the key design move — it defined the shower space without boxing the room back in. Combined with the tile going all the way to the ceiling, the bathroom reads as one cohesive space instead of three separate compartments.
