Question we got a few times this week: "Is it normal for my system to run constantly for a day or two after the power's been out?" Usually yes, it's just catching up on the temperature swing from being off, not a sign something's wrong.

Give it a day. If it's still running nonstop after that, that's when it's worth a call.

Power flickering on and off during a storm, like a lot of us dealt with over the weekend, can actually be harder on your system than a clean outage. Those surges when power comes back can stress components that a steady loss wouldn't touch.

If you don't have surge protection on your HVAC system, now's a good time to ask about it. Cheaper than replacing a damaged compressor after the next storm rolls through.

After a storm like Isaias, it's worth actually looking at your outdoor unit before just assuming it's fine. Debris, flooding, even just heavy wind can knock things loose or get junk stuck where it shouldn't be.

If your system's making a new noise, not cooling or heating like it used to, or just feels off since the storm, that's not something to brush aside. Worth a quick look before it turns into a bigger repair.

Hope everyone made it through Isaias okay. That storm hit harder than a lot of people expected, and if you're still dealing with cleanup, downed trees, or power that just came back on, we see you and we're glad you're safe.

If your AC or heat took a hit from flooding, power surges, or debris, or if it's just not running right since the power came back on, don't wait on it. A lot of systems get quietly damaged during storms like this without an obvious sign until days later.

This is the only post you'll see from us today. Isaias has strengthened into a major hurricane, Category 3, with winds around 120 mph, and it's expected to make landfall tonight or early tomorrow near the Alabama/Florida line.

If you're in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, or Dauphin Island, evacuation orders are already in place. Please take that seriously and get out if you haven't. For the rest of us in Baldwin and Mobile County, expect 4 to 8 inches of rain, dangerous storm surge, damaging winds, and a real tornado risk starting this afternoon and continuing into Saturday.

Right now, your HVAC system should be the last thing on your mind, and that's exactly how it should be. Secure what you can outside, charge your phones and devices, and get somewhere safe. We're not sending out crews today, our team needs to be home with their own families getting ready, same as yours.

Update on Isaias for everybody in Baldwin and Mobile County. It's now expected to make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane late Friday into early Saturday, somewhere between coastal Mississippi and Northwest Florida, so we're sitting right in that cone.

Biggest concern right now is rain, 4 to 7 inches with some spots possibly seeing up to 10. Ground's already saturated, so flooding is a real risk, not just wind. There's also a chance of tropical storm force winds across our area, with coastal spots facing a smaller chance of hurricane force gusts, plus storm surge up to 3 feet and dangerous rip currents along the coast.

If you haven't already, now's the time to double-check your generator can actually handle your HVAC system, and get any lingering AC or heat issues looked at before the storm gets here. A system that's already struggling is the last thing you want to deal with mid-outage.

We'll keep watching this with you. Stay safe, and call us if you need anything before it arrives.

Question we get this time of year: "Should I just turn my whole system off since it's not that hot or cold yet?" Honestly, it depends on your house, but running it occasionally even in mild weather helps keep things like seals and moving parts from sitting unused for too long.

If you're not sure what's right for your setup, just ask. There's not one right answer for every house.

Quick update for everybody in Baldwin and Mobile County. Isaias is now expected to make landfall near Gulf Shores around midnight Friday night as a hurricane, with winds near 90 mph. Saturday is looking like the worst of it, heavy rain across Mobile and Baldwin counties, possibly over 5 inches, plus a tornado risk late Friday night into Saturday.

If you've been putting off checking your generator, now's the time, not Friday afternoon. Make sure it's actually rated to handle your HVAC system if you're planning to run it, not just the fridge and a few lights. And if your AC or heat has been acting up at all lately, get it looked at today. The last thing you want is a system failing right as a storm rolls through and knocks out power for a few days.

We're keeping an eye on this just like you are. Stay safe out there, and don't hesitate to call if you need us before this thing arrives.

Quick shoutout to the crew this week. Calls have been a mix of everything lately, quick filter swaps, bigger repairs, the occasional "why is my thermostat doing that" mystery, and everybody's still showing up ready to explain what's going on instead of rushing through it.
