🏗️🎉 RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCE IN THE NEVADA DESERT! 🎉🏗️

Q&D Construction’s Plant Division achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday, successfully producing 1,245 cubic yards of concrete for a specialized mill foundation at the Mineral Ridge Mine in remote central Nevada — part of the Silver Peak District. The pour more than doubled Q&D’s previous single-day concrete production record, showcasing the company’s ability to execute complex work in some of the most challenging environments in the West. 💪🦺

Q&D produced the landmark concrete total for Schmueser & Associates crews, who placed it for the foundation.

The accomplishment becomes even more remarkable when considering the project’s isolated location. 📍 The MSHA-regulated mine sits at an elevation of 7,200 feet, with the final 11 miles accessible only by dirt road. The nearest town, Tonopah, is 90 minutes away, while the closest hospital is located three hours away in Bishop, CA. Q&D’s cement source was five hours from the site and its aggregate source, a six-hour haul.

To support the effort, Q&D operated a mobile dry batch plant approximately one mile from the foundation, with five mixer trucks completing an incredible 125 trips throughout the day. 🚚🚚🚚

The sunny skies Wednesday had our office crew at Q&D Construction enjoying the company’s second Employee Charity BBQ of 2026. Here at Q&D, tradition calls for hosting four such lunch events, spanning the spring into early fall. The company picks up the tab for burgers and hot dogs and employees donate funds to eat lunch. All monies donated are shared at the end of the year with Q&D’s designated charities. In 2026, those charities are Adopt-A-Vet Dental, Trauma Intervention Program and Moxy Up Mentoring.

🚧🎉 A big milestone for northern Nevada transportation!

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County - RTC (RTC) celebrated the completion of the Mill Street Capacity and Improvements Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning. Q&D Construction proudly served as the general contractor on the 14-month, $15.3 million project, delivering critical infrastructure upgrades designed to improve safety, mobility, and connectivity along one of Reno’s busiest corridors.

👷‍♂️🚦 Improvements included new sidewalks, curb and gutter replacement, additional travel lanes, a new roadway connection, and a new traffic signal at Mill Street and Golden Lane. The project also relocated overhead utilities underground and added new bike lanes, creating a safer and more efficient experience for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. We appreciate the partnership with RTC, and everyone who helped bring this important project to completion!

As part of the Nevada Department of Transportation's 3983 job, Q&D Construction utilized High Performance Concrete (HPC) while resurfacing a U.S. Highway 395 bridge in north Reno. HPC delivers a durable, long-lasting riding surface capable of withstanding northern Nevada's demanding climate and heavy traffic volumes. 🌦️🚛

Engineered for superior strength, reduced permeability, and enhanced resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, HPC helps extend bridge service life while reducing future maintenance needs and associated costs. 💪🌉

✈️ Progress Takes Flight at Spokane International Airport

Q&D Construction’s Aviation Department, in partnership with Garco Construction through a joint venture, continues to make significant strides on the Spokane International Airport expansion and modernization program.

Just two weeks ago, airport officials celebrated the opening of the newly completed Concourse C Expansion, a 140,000-square-foot addition that enhances the passenger experience with three new gates, six new ticket counters, and a variety of upgraded amenities.

The team is now focused on the next major milestone: Phase 2 of the Terminal Renovation and Expansion (TREX) Program. This transformative project will deliver a new 255,000-square-foot Central Hall, representing an estimated $335 million investment in the airport’s future. The Central Hall will streamline the travel experience by consolidating airline security screening checkpoints and creating a post-security connection between Concourses A, B, and C.

Currently, the Q&D/Garco team is relocating critical utilities and preparing the site for construction, with groundbreaking on the Central Hall complex anticipated in 2027.

This week, Q&D Construction crews are preparing to pour footings for a new protective wall at the Kingsbury Substation near Stateline, Nevada. The NV Energy project is part of a wildfire mitigation effort designed to help safeguard critical electrical infrastructure serving the Lake Tahoe region.

Before the wall can rise, our teams are focused on the precision work that makes it all possible—excavation, grading, forming, and footing preparation. It's another example of the skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail our crews bring to every project, from the ground up.

🚧 Improving One of Nevada's Most Scenic Highways 🚧

Q&D Construction crews are hard at work along the east shore of Lake Tahoe as construction continues on the Nevada Department of Transportation's two-year U.S. 50 Stateline-to-Spooner Summit Repaving Project.

Now in its second and final construction season, this important infrastructure improvement project stretches from the Nevada-California state line near Stateline to Spooner Summit and is helping enhance safety, mobility, and the long-term durability of a critical transportation corridor serving residents and visitors alike.

Current work includes:
✔️ Repaving more than seven miles of U.S. 50 between Cave Rock and Spooner Summit
✔️ Completing a one-mile segment between Round Hill and Zephyr Cove
✔️ Upgrading drainage infrastructure
✔️ Improving curb and gutter systems
✔️ Replacing guardrails and concrete barriers
✔️ Performing final striping and roadway safety enhancements

During the 2025 construction season, crews successfully repaved approximately 5.5 miles of highway through the Stateline corridor, installed new asphalt from Stateline to just south of Cave Rock, and began numerous drainage and roadside safety improvements.

Construction is expected to continue through October 2026. We appreciate the patience of motorists traveling through the work zone as our teams continue delivering improvements that will benefit the Lake Tahoe region for years to come.
