Hello! Hope all is well with you. This is Lorrie Huff (Jackson). I'm sending this to please ask for your support.
As you may know, after 50 years, we sold our buildings on Canal Rd (although we kept an easement to access Canal Rd for our mining activities).
Frank Cervini bought those properties and is renting one building out to BT Trucking. (Which is simply a tree and plow service company with trucks out in the morning and back after the day is done - not a huge trucking business in and out all day everyday like they are trying to paint) here is their website: https://www.bandttree.com (https://www.bandttree.com)
Frank fixed up the yard prior to renting by bringing in many loads of stone and fill, which required a lot of trucks in and out for a moment in time.
Because of that, we are now being witch hunted by the Town and residents on Canal Rd, who think it was “normal activity” of the new renter. With our “good friends” and neighbors and several others heading the protest.
We have been pre- existing and non- conforming since 1987. It is unfair for the town to devalue the property simply because neighbors don’t know anything about the law or how we operated in our prime.
We were surprisingly hammered at the first town meeting. I have since provided all the proof they asked for (regarding our activities over the last 50 years).
They basically are saying that the current trucking by Frank's tenant is more intense than what we did (including the past when we had a landfill and our main office was there), and basically trying to de-value everything my Dad worked so hard on over the past 50 years, not to mention what Frank has invested there now.
There is another final town meeting on September 5th - 7 pm to around 10 (at the Ogden town court). I'm asking if you'll support us by either speaking at the meeting or sending in a statement (notorized) beforehand. I am willing to assist and pay for the notarization of any statement provided.
Although they don't have the right, they may even try to stop us from using Canal Rd for our continued mining activities. I do think the Town wants to support us, but they have only heard from people who don't know us and don't understand what we have done there all these years. Im fearful they’ll side with the tax payers, simply because of their numbers.
If you can offer another side to them as tax payers also, it may help. If you could help us, I would truly appreciate it.
What would be helpful, in a statement or speech, is any Ogden residents that can tell about how busy we used to be at the pit on Canal Road back in the prime of our business, as well as our continued use up until the sale to Frank, or how LL HUFF or Larry has been a positive influence on the community in the past (building the majority of our closest neighbors homes), or any general disagreement with the attempt of the residents or the Town to remove value on our land, and how it isn’t right to remove an earned right to practice business (as any American should have).
Having businesses in the community is a good thing, and the business running there now will NOT be doing more trucking in and out of Canal Road than we did- by far.
This means so much to us - on even a personal level - I thank you for anything you can provide, and of course, feel free to call me
if you have any questions.
This isn't our first rodeo. Our team has a combined 50+ years of expertise and experience to get the job done the right way!
