Many families across our community are dealing with the unimaginable, our hearts and prayers are with everyone affected. If your home is still standing, that's something to be incredibly thankful for.

But one thing we want homeowners to know is that there may be damage that isn’t immediately obvious.

Smoke from these fires wasn't just created by trees. Hundreds of homes, vehicles, fences, plastics, treated lumber, roofing materials, and household belongings also burned. That smoke can carry fine particles and combustion residue that may enter homes through attic vents, HVAC systems, open doors, windows, garages, and other openings.

That doesn't mean every home needs professional restoration.

It does mean it's worth understanding what, if anything, made its way inside.

Depending on what an inspection finds, the solution may be as simple as replacing HVAC filters, cleaning affected surfaces, or improving indoor air filtration. In other situations, more thorough cleaning may be recommended.

The important thing is making decisions based on the actual condition of your home—not assumptions or misinformation.

As you return home, pay attention to what you find inside. If you're noticing a persistent smoke odor, seeing ash or soot indoors, or your home was exposed to heavy smoke during the fire, having the property inspected can help you understand what you're dealing with.

If you'd like us to inspect your home, we'll gladly come take a look. We do not charge for inspections, and if everything looks good, we'll tell you that too.

Small leaks can go unnoticed for a long time, especially when the water is leaking into an area you cannot see.

In this case, a small leak from the dishwasher was running underneath the kitchen cabinet. The home owners had no idea there was a leak. They happened to be having their flooring replaced and discovered this section of the floor was wet.

We were able to dry everything out and restore the affected area. Luckily, there was no major damage. The bottom of the cabinet needed some repairs, but everything else was in good shape.

Mold only needs 24 to 48 hours to begin growing.

So drying up the water after a water damage event — that's part of the job. It's not the whole job.

For the job to be complete, the source of the moisture has to be addressed. If it's not, you're in for a mold problem.

Thermal fogging is when you heat an oil-based solution until it becomes smoke, release it into the space, and it does what smoke does — travels everywhere the original odor went and bonds with it. The smell doesn't get masked. It gets neutralized.

We have a cherry blend that we use for cigarette smoke. After that and a fresh coat of paint, you shouldn't smell anything at all.

Property damage doesn't wait, and neither do we. Whether you are dealing with water damage, fire and smoke damage, mold, or biohazard cleanup, our local team is ready to help restore your peace of mind.

Mold Is Not Something You DIY
Mold is a serious issue that requires a professional approach to ensure your home stays safe. If you don't handle it properly, it will just keep coming back, and the health risks to you and your family are significant. Attempting to tear out walls or remove mold without the proper containment and equipment will simply spread those spores throughout your entire house.

HVAC systems are the primary vector for whole-house smoke contamination and re-contamination: a kitchen fire that burns for minutes can deposit soot in every room through ductwork, and running the system after a fire re-contaminates already-cleaned rooms — which is why FEMA, the ANSI/IICRC S700 standard, directs homeowners to shut HVAC off immediately and clean ducts before reoccupancy.

This bedroom never had flame in it. It's still coated in soot from ceiling to floor. Smoke doesn't stay where the fire was — it travels through the ductwork and settles into walls and carpet rooms away. If you've had a fire, assume every room needs a look, not just the obvious one.

Framing lumber that remains excessively wet can support fungal decay and eventually lose structural strength. Moisture readings above normal levels are an early warning, which is why identifying the source and drying the structure quickly matters.
