Never really had the urge to forge hatches/axes. But when family wants to forge them, you forge them. May have the bug to forge a felling axe now.

It’s a simple task, not overly complicated. I am pretty sure the satisfaction I get from wrapping collars is disproportionately high. Using the fly press is also has another layer of satisfaction.

Super Stoked!!!! I have wanted a fly press for 10 years. Thanks to Scout @ Vintage Tool Works down in Texas. The price was extremely reasonable including the shipping.

What's your design process? Typically, I spend an evening doodlig 6-8, maybe 12-18ish designs. Eventually, I hit the wall and doodle garbage. The next day, I work thru the doodles. This means I toss the last few, I hardly ever have one that is perfect. Usually, I take bits and pieces and progressively doodle away another half dozen or so before I find a satisfactory design. Than I scale it out on the table. Looked at it and thought, "Oh yah, psssh, no problem, I'll get these pieces cut, textured and forged out in... 4-5 hrs".
8.5 hrs later, I still have 3 left. It's been 13 years, no worries, tho. I am ever hopeful I'll start hitting my mental timeline estimate with an accuracy of +/- 10-15% as a posed to +/- 50-60%.

13 years ago, I had all these ideas to make progression boards showing the steps needed to forge an item. To make sample boards etc etc. Finally, I got this one done. So, by 2038, I should have at least one or two more completed. 'llgettoit

Center piece for 16' x 7' gate. 2 pieces done forged down from 3/8" x 1 1/2" x 8" bar stock. Free rolling ovals is a pain in the butt. Usually, I'd make a form. Just didn't seem worth it for one oval.
