A lot of painters have that project.

Usually, the one where you realize commercial coatings are tied to WAY more than just appearance. 🏗️🎨

Especially in healthcare, school, and government work, MPI standards often become a major part of the conversation early because the coatings are expected to perform in very specific environments for a long time.

Not just:
“Does it look good?”

But:

Look at the substrate.

We see it all the time—prep treated like a checklist instead of a system. But wood, masonry, and metal don’t play by the same rules.

Here’s the quick reset:

🪵 Wood
Moves, breathes, and holds moisture
✔ Clean, dry, sanded
✔ Prime stains/knots
✔ Watch moisture content before coating

🧱 Masonry
Porous, alkaline, often moisture-prone
✔ Remove efflorescence
✔ Allow full cure/dry time
✔ Use alkali-resistant primers where needed

🔩 Metal
Smooth, non-porous, prone to corrosion
✔ Remove rust/scale
✔ Degrease thoroughly
✔ Use corrosion-inhibiting primer

Treat every surface the same… and something will fail.

Build the system around the substrate, and everything downstream performs better.
