The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was founded in 1852 and has a current membership of 146,000 nationally. ASCE is the oldest national professional engineering society in the United States. ASCE is dedicated to the advancement of the individual civil engineer and the advancement of the science and profession of civil engineering through education. The founding of what became known as

the Inland Empire Section was in 1914. The purpose of the organization was to "encourage acquaintance and social in*******se among members of the Society (ASCE) in this vicinity and to have papers presented and discussions along lines of interest. We have three student chapters, Washington State University, University of Idaho and Gonzaga University. Our Younger Member Group is very active. Our geographic area is Northeastern Washington (Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Lincoln, Grant, Douglas, Chelan, Adams, Whitman, Asotin and, Garfield counties) and Northern Idaho ( Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Shoshone Benewah, Latah and Clearwater, Nez Perce and Lewis counties.)
