ATTENTION…..we have historic news!!! Per the ATF and effective today, ATF will no longer enforce NFA Regulations for Short Barrel ri**es, short barrel sh****ns, Silencers and any other weapons. This is across the board and for everyone not just the parties involved in the recent court rulings. Simply put, if your state doesn’t have specific laws requiring you to follow and register with the NFA then you no longer need approval to make or purchase these items. As far as buying these items at a store, the process will be the same as regular fi****ms. If you wish to convert or make these items no NFA approval will be required. Please see the link for more information.
“ATF will cease enforcement on October 9, 2026, of the following NFA provisions as applied only to short-barreled ri**es, short-barreled sh****ns, silencers, and “any other weapon[s]” as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(e):
The requirement to apply and obtain prior approval to make NFA fi****ms
The requirement of those engaged in the business to register NFA fi****ms within 24 hours of making
The requirement to apply and obtain prior approval to transfer NFA fi****ms
The requirement to register a fi***rm in the National Fi***rms Registration and Transfer Record.
The various prohibitions on making, receiving, transferring, and possessing unregistered NFA fi****ms, other than the prohibitions in 26 U.S.C. § 5861(h), (k) (prohibiting possession of fi****ms with obliterated serial numbers or those illegally imported)
The prohibition against transporting unregistered NFA fi****ms in interstate commerce (26 U.S.C. § 5861(j))
The NFA requirement to mark all NFA fi****ms
Any other NFA provision specifically enjoined by the district court’s judgment
This nonenforcement only extends to fi****ms on which Congress eliminated the making and transfer taxes. Among other policy reasons, this nonenforcement policy is designed to eliminate the inequity and disuniformity created by the district court’s injunction, which is limited only to certain parties.
Machineguns and destructive devices remain taxable items and subject to all NFA provisions. Those “engaged in the business” must also continue to pay special (occupational) taxes. “
If you live in these states the NFA will no longer apply to you:
