Ask ten fi****ms detection handlers what their dog is trained on, and you'll get ten different answers. Spent casings. A specific gun. Whatever was at the range. Gunpowder smell. We do what we can with what we have and what we're given.

There's a better answer, and the science behind it is more straightforward than most people realize. It comes down to one compound that's present on 91% of all smokeless powder formulations worldwide, persists on fi****ms for over a year, and isn't found randomly anywhere else in the environment!
