Every year the trend lists come out. Here’s ours for 2027, with a twist.

Building alongside some of the best designers in Houston has taught us that the smartest homes aren’t the trendiest ones. They’re built with intention: real investment where you live every day, restraint where things can change later, and honest expectations about what pays you back.

Swipe through for what we’re excited for in 2027, where we tell our own clients to splurge and save, and the projects worth doing for you, even if they aren’t for resale.

Planning something for the new year? We’d love to hear about it.

Here are three shades of blue from Patriot projects, from light to moody:

Stardew, SW 9138: a soft gray-blue that keeps a big kitchen feeling bright and calm, especially paired with warm brass hardware and natural wood.

Tempe Star, SW 6229 (satin): a deeper slate blue that turns an island into the anchor of the room. Under warm pendant light, it glows.

Get the look with Naval, SW 6244: a deep navy that wraps built-ins in color and makes a sitting room feel like a retreat.

We’ve had so many new faces here lately, so it’s time for a proper (re)introduction 🤍

We’re Cody and Kristen Dawson: high school sweethearts, together for over 20 years, and parents to three amazing girls. In 2020, we started Patriot as a small handyman business, and it quickly grew into high-end renovations, whole-home renovations, and additions.

Why “Patriot”? Cody wanted a name that reflected how we run our business: ethically, with a love for our country, and with all our heart. It also stands for the freedom that owning our own business has brought to our family’s life.

Cody leads construction and project management and specializes in detailed, complex projects. Our clients notice it most at the final punch list. I came from corporate finance, and I handle our business management, marketing, and networking. Jenny, our administrative director, keeps every project aligned and every client in the loop. Our girls even help behind the scenes with photos and videos, and our oldest has helped manage several of our jobs!
What we love most is taking a space that feels average and turning it into something completely different. And when a client tells us they trust us wholeheartedly, not just for the finished home but for how we handled everything along the way, that’s why we do this.

In 2025, our Cool Breeze kitchen on Lake Conroe won Silver at the Best in American Living™ Awards, our first national award. We’re proud members of NAHB, GHBA, the Remodelers Council, and Professional Women in Building, and we’re always learning and growing.

We have big goals for 2027, and we’re so glad you’re here for it.

Tell us in the comments: what are you dreaming of building? 👇

We’re so glad you follow us, and we can’t wait to meet you! We post daily: behind-the-scenes, final reveals, and plenty of funny videos from running our business. So stick around, because we can’t wait for you to see the team behind the name. 🤍

Some kitchens are built to be looked at. This one was built to be cooked in. 🤍

When our Blackstone Creek homeowners in Kingwood came to us, they wanted a kitchen that could keep up with real life: big meals, a full house, and more than one cook at a time. Every detail started from that idea.

The 7-foot custom white oak hood anchors the room. We built niches into it on both sides of the range, so the oils, spices and favorite pieces they cook with every day sit right there on display.

At the island, a 46” workstation sink with two faucets means two people can prep, rinse and clean up side by side without bumping elbows.

For the counters, we paired two stones. Quartzite on the island is the natural showpiece, and quartz on the perimeter handles the day-to-day spills without a second thought.

The morning coffee station sits behind custom cabinetry. Open the doors and it’s ready to go. Close them and the kitchen looks calm again.

Swipe through for the details that made all the difference. ➡️

When John and Beth first invited us into their Kingwood home, they didn’t ask for a showpiece. They asked for a kitchen that felt like them, a place to cook, bake and gather the people they love around the island.🏝️

Their kitchen had served them well, but it wasn’t built for the way they live. They love to entertain. Beth bakes & cooks & John cleans it up :)

They wanted a space that could keep up with all of it without giving up the beauty they had always pictured.

From day one, three words guided us:
balance, cohesiveness and symmetry.

That’s why we brought in Woods Design House | Northeast Houston Interiors early. Great projects start with the right partnerships, and we knew Emily and her team would be a perfect fit for John and Beth. Working together from the very beginning, we designed a kitchen and living space that works for them now and for years to come.

Every detail had to earn its place. The custom rift oak hood is framed by cabinetry that mirrors itself side to side. Twin prep faucets let two cooks work at the island at once. A pot filler sits right over the range. Stacked wall ovens and a paneled refrigerator give John and Beth serious capacity and still disappear into the cabinetry. It’s a true working kitchen, and one of the most beautiful rooms we’ve had the honor to build.

John and Beth, thank you for trusting us with the heart of your home. We can’t wait to see all the meals, holidays and memories this kitchen holds.

This week we’re taking you through all the ins and outs of this project. Stay tuned for more from the Blackstone project in Kingwood, Texas. 🤍

“Can you give us a ballpark?”

It’s the first question in almost every first meeting, and it should be. So here’s what renovation budgets actually look like in Houston right now. 👇

🍽️ Kitchen & Dining: $125K+
🛁 Primary Suite: $110K+
🏡 First Floor: $250K+
🔨 Whole Home, no structural changes: $425K+
🏗️ Whole Home, with structural work: $600K+

These are construction budgets: trades, materials, labor, permits, and project management. They’re starting points, not quotes. What’s behind your drywall moves a budget faster than what goes on top of it.

Three things move your number the most: structure, selections, and timing. Houston material and labor costs haven’t stopped climbing, so a number from last spring won’t hold this fall.

There will always be a cheaper, budget-friendly contractor out there. That isn’t us, and it’s on purpose. We don’t lowball a bid to win the job and then make it up in change orders. We don’t cut corners on what’s behind the walls. And we don’t rush trades through your home to squeeze in the next project. You get one team, one schedule, and a finished home that holds up long after we hand you the keys.

We’d rather give you the real number early than the comfortable one.

📌 Save this for when you start planning, and send it to someone who’s thinking about a renovation.

No more hauling a heavy stand mixer out of the pantry. 🙌

This is one of the small details we love building into our kitchens: a mixer lift. It’s a hidden pull-out that raises your stand mixer to counter height and holds it steady while you use it. When you’re done, it folds down and tucks back into the cabinet, so your countertops stay clear and your back stays happy.

Good design is more than how a kitchen looks. It’s how the kitchen works for you every day.
