In 1940, Paul Mueller and his partner Gordon Mann opened Mann and Mueller Heating and Sheet Metal Works. Their first employee was Joe White, who eventually became our Executive Vice President. In 1943, Paul bought Gordon Mann's share of the business after Mr. Mann became ill, and the name of the business was changed to Paul Mueller Company. 1944 marked our first venture into the food processing business. We made chicken pluckers, scalders, and eviscerating equipment for a super salesman named Kent Tomlinson. We were incorporated in Missouri in 1946, and that same year we began manufacturing dairy processing equipment for the first time: cheese vats, culture tanks, and cheese presses.

Last night, Missouri State University held its Engineering Night, and we had the opportunity to sponsor the event.

Seven of our coworkers, who are alumni of the program, attended, and Noah Taylor (Food & Beverage) received an Outstanding Alumni Award.

Attendees included: Carson Wilkins (Food & Beverage), Devon Parker (Life Sciences), Josh Cox (Life Sciences), Josh Eigenman (Food & Beverage), Josh Lair (Life Sciences), Jerry Wang (Food & Beverage), Noah Taylor (Dairy Farm Equipment), Sean Hendrix (PyroPure®).

In April of this year, Paul Mueller Company became the first and only stainless steel manufacturer in Missouri to offer a Registered Youth Apprenticeship program.

Recently, Springfield Public Schools (SPS) and Missouri State University (MSU) visited our Springfield location to speak with three of our apprentices: Bella Moser (Glendale High School), Micah Powell (Kickapoo High School), and Drake Owen (Kickapoo High School). They have been working and learning with us since this summer and continue their apprenticeships, working various hours between 5:00 am and 11:00 am, while balancing school, sports, band, and other daily activities.

Moser’s supervisor, Chad Thornton, shared, “She is ahead of where I thought she would be right now,” when asked how she was doing. Moser said she feels ahead of other students taking only classes at Ozarks Technical Community College.

When SPS and MSU spoke with these students, one common theme emerged among all three. They each said they want to work at Paul Mueller Company after graduating high school.

Powell said he wants to work at Paul Mueller Company after graduating and can see himself working here for 20 years. Owen said that he would definitely recommend this experience to his friends.

We are honored to develop these young, talented students, and look forward to where their future takes them.
