Part 2 of today’s continues some . These documents you see here are essentially a for payment received by Philip Hof 2 from a Robert A. Holekamp. More on Robert can be found here: https://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_A._Holekamp . The story goes that at some point in the a family member of Robert’s was going through old documents and came across these dating to #1891 . Since Hof Construction was still doing business with Holekamp Lumber Company at the time they recognized the name and gave these to Fred Hof 2 (you can see his name written on the envelope) since these documents would have already been 60 years old and written by his grandfather. The arrangement of words in the document are intriguing, and probably lend themselves to fact both Robert and Philip spoke as their and was their adopted language.
The letter reads: “St. Louis, March 28, 1881. Received of Robt. A Holekamp Fifty 00/100 dollars which is to be credited on each of stairs to be created by me in dwelling of Robert A Holekamp on Virgina Avenue near Meramec (Ln?) Ph. Hof”
Also intriguing is that they both abbreviated their first names with periods after the abbreviation. Lots of in these documents beyond that. Including some pseudo-prehistory of , as Gray and Holekamp was the precursor to that company.

Today’s is going to be two part, and we go back to our . We date the founding of our company to #1911 , when Fred Hof 1 started Fred Hof Construction. However the story of our family’s involvement in the dates back to just after the end of the and our family’s arrival from . In #1866 the Hof family departed Germany on board the first that traveled from Germany to . The family did not enjoy the crowds in so they traveled onto , where the grandfather of our founder, Philip 1, had two brothers. The second picture is of Philip Hof 2, the father of our founder, which we will go into greater detail in our second post today.
