Great energy yesterday at the Hazelwood School District and Future In Action (FIA) expo at St. Louis Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Center!

AMICSTL was proud to be part of the lineup of organizations showcasing hands-on training opportunities and real pathways into advanced manufacturing. The turnout spanned every age – grade school through adults – all exploring what’s possible.

Seeing our community come together to support the next generation of talent contributes to why this works matters.

What will actually happen inside AMICSTL?
A lot, and much of it is already happening today.

Across the region, AMICSTL and our partners are already:
- Collaborating on R&D to solve real manufacturing production challenges
- Prototyping and testing new ideas, materials, and processes
- Integrating workforce training directly with industry needs
- Bringing manufacturers, educators, and engineers together to accelerate innovation

Our 52,000-square-foot facility, opening early in 2027, will take this work to the next level by expanding capacity, deepening collaboration, and giving companies a shared space to move ideas from concept to capability even faster.

AMICSTL isn’t waiting for a building to create impact. We’re building momentum now, and the facility will amplify and grow what’s underway.

Reality: Advanced manufacturing runs on creativity.

From designing new products to rethinking materials to solving complex production challenges, creativity shows up in engineering, prototyping, materials, and process innovation every single day.

Every breakthrough on the factory floor starts the same way: with an idea worth building.

The Project MFG National Additive Competition wrapped up in Pflugerville, TX, and the greater St. Louis region showed up strong.

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate all three of our regional teams from Triad High School, Freeburg Community High School, and Althoff Catholic High School that advanced to nationals after competing at the AMICSTL/Project MFG regional event. They carried that momentum all the way to Texas, and it showed.

A special shoutout to Triad High School for earning 3rd place on the national stage. An outstanding achievement representing our region.

The competition challenged students to design, print, and assemble a functional end effector, navigating real-world constraints. The teams deployed problem-solving that mirrors what manufacturing professionals face every day.

AMICSTL is proud of every student who competed, and we’re looking forward to future opportunities to grow our regional talent pipeline and create exciting pathways for them.

Today is the big day!

The Project MFG National Additive Manufacturing Competition is underway in Pflugerville, TX, hosted by EOS North America, a global leader in industrial 3D-printing technology.

Nine teams from across the country are competing on the national stage, including three outstanding teams representing the greater St. Louis/Bi-state region:
Triad High School (Troy, IL)
Freeburg Community High School (Freeburg, IL)
Althoff Catholic High School (Belleville, IL)

These teams earned their place at nationals after competing in the AMICSTL/ProjectMFG regional event held Saint Louis University in February.

Today’s challenge: design, print, and assemble a functional end effector (the “hand” of a robotic arm) while navigating real-world constraints like design changes, economics, slicing, post-processing, and assembly.

But the true focus goes beyond the part they produce. This competition builds teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and real workplace dynamics, the skills that open doors to high-demand careers across advanced manufacturing.

AMICSTL is proud of our St. Louis regional teams and excited to cheer them on at the national level!
