Maker’s Yard is a multi-tenant ‘food hub’ located in the Delmar Maker District. The project creates a neighborhood gathering place, showcasing culinary craft, while engaging the broader community.
The core strategy of the project is providing access to the outdoors. Locating the shared courtyard along Delmar connects patrons to the urban context and activates the streetscape. Interior spaces have access to fresh air by means of large overhead doors, while skylights bring daylight deep into the floorplate.
Originally built as an autobody shop, the existing structures severed the site into disjointed lots. Our intervention removed a portion of existing building to allow for a clear circulation spine, highlighted by a new architectural shade structure, that unifies the entire site Delmar Maker District
