30 springs, 10,000 gallons per minute, and a 1-inch endangered fish fighting for survival. 🐟✨

Ash Meadows, Nevada is a stunning example of how subsurface geology creates life-saving oases in the desert. But with threats ranging from lithium mining to upstream risks, its future hangs in a delicate balance.

Could one of North America’s saltiest lakes be sitting on a massive freshwater goldmine?

Ongoing research suggests that the Great Salt Lake in Utah may have large freshwater aquifers below it. This discovery could have major implications for water resource management in the western United States.

Learn more about the research, and the possible outcomes, in this month's Groundwater Picture of the Month. Click here to read more: https://collierconsulting.com/2026/05/groundwater-picture-of-the-month-may-2026/

Great event at the SAME Sacramento Post Government Engagement Day! Collier spent the morning meeting with reps from Kimley-Horn, and networking and participating in targeted matchmaking sessions with key agencies like USACE, Caltrans, and California American Water. The one-on-one meetings provided direct insights into upcoming projects and contracting opportunities in the federal and state marketplace. We left with several promising connections and potential teaming partners.

In the latest Groundwater Picture of the Month... we’re looking at a massive research endeavor happening right off the coast of New England.

Did you know there are geological layers saturated with freshwater sitting deep beneath the seabed? Scientists are currently mapping these offshore aquifers to determine how much water is there and if it can eventually be pumped onshore for water supply.

We’re going on a field trip!

In this month's Groundwater Picture of the Month, we follow a training program for Nebraska teachers to learn about the engineering behind their local water supply. Learn how "Ranney" collector wells and vertical wells in alluvial sediments provide safe, reliable water to thousands of citizens across the country.

When it comes to Texas, Collier is usually all about groundwater—but we’re happy to make an exception for the frozen variety!

We were thrilled to sponsor the Universal City Snowfest this past weekend. It was a fantastic day for the community to experience the magic of a Texas "snow day," complete with all sorts of winter fun. Our Principal Hydrogeologist, Brad Cross, was on hand Saturday to represent the Collier team and connect with the incredible folks in Universal City. We’re proud to support the communities where we live and work! ❄️💧

Something is haunting our coastlines...
They’re called ghost forests. These stands of bleached, dead trees are a visible warning that saltwater is invading our freshwater aquifers.

This month’s Groundwater Picture of the Month explores the "zone of dispersion" and why rising sea levels are putting our drinking water and infrastructure at a multi-billion dollar risk.

Is the "canary in the coal mine" already warning us of a crisis inland?
