⚓The NAVADMIN creates new Chief of the Boat (COB) rating to strengthen enlisted leadership.

The COB will be assigned as the Senior Enlisted Leader aboard . COBs will be equivalent to a Command Master Chief and detailed to manage the unique mission sets of a submarine crew. All applicants must be submarine warfare qualified.

The change addressed a gap in the submarine force’s enlisted leadership structure. Experienced technical Sailors are needed to serve as chiefs of the boat, where they fill critical command-level leadership billets. However, when Sailors leave their original ratings their technical communities lose some of their most capable trainers, mentors and leaders. | https://hubs.ly/Q04C0sxm0

⚓ The pressure to deliver ships faster pushes shipyards toward distributed . The Navy has a backlog of orders, AUKUS commitments and slow deliveries. Distributed shipbuilding is an old solution to a new set of problems.

"We do want to start tapping into this ecosystem of small and mid-sized yards to work with the prime so that they can do what they do best, which is assembly, and they can outsource some of this to all these Gulf yards in their local regional areas," said a senior Department of Navy official. | https://hubs.ly/Q04zhkBz0

⚓ The announced that it surpassed its fiscal 2026 recruiting goal, continuing a trend of meeting its fleet’s manpower needs several years in a row.

The Navy surpassed its fiscal 2026 enlistment goal by adding 45, 112 new sailors, after hitting its initial goal of 45,000 sailors three months ahead of schedule in July.

“Americans are choosing to join our Navy because they want to be part of a warrior culture, serve alongside teammates who share that ethos, and take on the extraordinary combat missions our Navy is executing around the world today,” said Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle. “Surpassing this accession mission is therefore more than a recruiting milestone — it is a direct injection of readiness into the fleet.” | https://hubs.ly/Q04z1LgW0

⚓ Welcome home to the crew of USS Idaho (SSN 799), and thank you to the families who carried so much while they were away.

Seeing Sailors reunited with their wives, children, and families on the pier is a powerful reminder of the people behind every deployment.

For those of us who support the submarine fleet, this is why the work matters. Every part we make, every problem we solve, and every commitment we keep helps the crew carry out its mission and come home safely.
