Shop Spotlight: Panel Shop

A power system is only as good as its controls. The control panel is what tells equipment when to start, stop, switch, communicate, and respond. In many ways, it serves as the brain behind the system.

Martin Energy Group’s panel shop is a key part of our ability to deliver complete power and control solutions. With UL-certified manufacturing capabilities, experienced engineering and production teams, and modern manufacturing equipment, our shop is equipped to support everything from one-off custom control panels to large-scale production runs.

Our team builds equipment for a wide range of demanding industrial applications, including generator controls, BESS controls, automation systems, and low/medium voltage power distribution.

We’ve also made significant investments in automation and manufacturing technology to improve efficiency, consistency, and production capacity. With engineering, fabrication, assembly, wiring, and testing all under one roof, MEG can take a project from initial design through finished product while maintaining control over quality and schedule throughout the process.

As demand continues to grow, we’re continuing to invest in our people, equipment, and manufacturing capabilities to expand both the range and volume of equipment we can build.

We enjoyed welcoming a group of students from a local school to our facility in Pennsylvania! They had the opportunity to tour the shop, see some of the work we do, and learn more about our industry.

Linford Seibel led the tour, sharing insights from his more than 20 years of experience with the company and explaining how things work throughout the facility. We’re always glad to have opportunities like this to introduce young people to the work we do and the career possibilities within our industry.

Our new Ephrata location has been operating for a few months, and we officially celebrated the opening last week with a ribbon cutting, followed by a dinner with our employees and their families.

At the dinner, members of our leadership team shared stories about Martin Energy Group’s roots and the long road it took to secure and develop this new facility. It was a great opportunity to look back at where we started and recognize how far we’ve come.

Today, our Ephrata team is all under one roof, bringing our operations together in a facility designed to support our continued growth. The expanded space and capabilities give our team more room to build, collaborate, and take on larger and more complex projects while strengthening our ability to serve customers across the region and beyond.

Site Spotlight | Pharmaceutical Facility | Puerto Rico

Martin Energy Group delivered a full EPC package for a pharmaceutical facility in Puerto Rico, integrating three energy sources into one resilient microgrid built to withstand the powerful storms that challenge the island’s electric grid.

The system includes:
• Two 56HM engines, 1,300 kW each, providing primary power from LNG
• 4.4 MWh battery system for backup, microgrid stability, and efficiency
• Custom 1,750 kW diesel genset for backup and added resilience
• Custom switchgear lineup housed in a fully engineered E-House
• Shared HRSG capturing exhaust from both engines to produce steam
• 300-ton absorption chiller using recovered heat for cooling

Outputs delivered to the facility:
Electricity | Steam | Hot Water | Chilled Water

Today is World Cogeneration Day, and Martin Energy Group is highlighting some of our favorite and most unique combined heat and power (CHP) projects.

Pharmaceutical Facility | Boston, MA

This 1.3 MW natural gas CHP system was commissioned in 2016 and featured a Guascor 56HM engine installed inside an existing boiler room.

One of the unique challenges of the project was getting the 1,300 kW engine into the boiler room, where it was rolled into place on skates. The system also included a full SCR and HRSG, along with a predesigned enclosure that was assembled in place piece by piece.

World Cogeneration Day is September 4, and in anticipation, Martin Energy Group is highlighting some of our favorite and most unique combined heat and power (CHP) projects.

Dairy Farm | Auburn, NY

This 1 MW LP-fueled CHP system was installed at a dairy farm in Auburn, New York, and commissioned in freezing 25°F temperatures. The system features a Guascor 56SM engine and provides reliable power with island mode operation, allowing the facility to continue operating even when utility power is unavailable.

The CHP system also features both low- and high-temperature heat recovery, providing 170°F–185°F and 220°F–290°F heat, ensuring versatile usage of energy for the customer's needs. Paralleling switchgear allows the CHP system to seamlessly integrate with the site's existing electrical system, including a nearby diesel backup generator.

This project demonstrates how CHP can provide both reliable power and versatile heat recovery, making better use of the energy already being produced.
