Does a meter still spin when no one's there to watch it go 'round? Some customers go away on vacation expecting a smaller energy bill on their return, only to find the bill was pretty much the same. A home's electrical devices consume energy all the time, whether the house is occupied or not. This is why it's important to take the proper steps to prepare a home to be empty when it won’t be used for a long period of time. Here are a few steps you can take to reduce energy bills while you're away.

• Turn off your water heater
• Turn up your thermostat
• Unplug/defrost your refrigerator
• Close your curtains
• Use timers and day/night sensors on security lights
• Unplug other electronics
• Monitor your usage with MyAccount

You Can Make a Difference on Hot Summer Days.
Summer brings periods of extreme heat. This in turn creates high demand for electricity and can potentially cause stress on our power system. Choosing to use less energy, especially on days when temperatures are extreme, ensures that the system stays up and running and there is enough power to serve everyone in our community. Thank you for doing your part when the community needs it the most.

We want to help you keep your energy bills under control and stay cool this summer with some simple tips. For the biggest savings, ensure that your air conditioning unit is well-maintained and replace its filter when it gets dirty. Also make sure to grill outdoors or prepare meals that don’t require cooking. Using your oven and stovetop creates a lot of indoor heat. With these easy actions, you can stay cool without breaking the bank on electricity costs.

We offer a $35 bill credit for AC Tune-ups!

This Father's Day, show dad — or those who have been a father figure in your life — some love with the gift of powerful and efficient tools. From cordless lawn equipment and power tools to gas or charcoal grills.

Consider purchasing emissions-free lawn tools for dad's summer chores. Besides the added bonus of carbon cutting, dad and the air around you will smell better as well. For extra dad appreciation bonus points, help him with landscaping duty.

Consider getting dad a gas or charcoal grill this Father's Day to save electricity and reduce carbon emissions. A liquefied petroleum gas grill operated for an hour emits 5.6 pounds of carbon dioxide and is one of the one of the cleanest burning options. A charcoal grill emits about 11 pounds of C02. An electric grill accounts for about 15 pounds of C02.

Consider this Father's Day giving the gift of cordless power tools. Paired with ENERGY STAR-certified battery chargers, he could save about 30% more electricity.
Father's Day may only come once a year, but these gifts will save money and energy all year round!
