A dozen Baldwin EMC employees are heading north to assist Central Alabama Electric Cooperative with power restoration efforts following severe weather that hit the area last night. The storm caused outages and damage throughout their service area. We’re proud of our team for answering the call when it matters most!

A major milestone in Gulf Shores is helping shape the future of our region, and Baldwin EMC is honored to play a role in it.

The City of Gulf Shores was awarded $2.14 million through the Growing Alabama Tax Credit Program to support key development at Gulf Shores International Airport. This investment will help position the airport for future aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations, opening the door to high-skill jobs, new business opportunities and continued private investment in our area.

We are honored to support this effort by helping make the project possible through a funding partnership. While our primary mission is always to provide reliable power to our members, we also recognize how important strategic economic development is to the long-term strength of our communities.

Lee Johnson, Baldwin EMC Vice President of External Affairs and Economic Development, emphasizes the significance of Gulf Shores International Airport as a vital regional asset and highlights the collaboration with community partners to foster economic growth and development opportunities.

Congratulations to the North Baldwin Literacy Council, Neighborhood bridges Baldwin County, The Legacy for Restoration-A Nonprofit Organization, and Youth-Reach Gulf Coast! These local non-profit agencies were recently awarded grants through the Baldwin EMC Charitable Foundation, Operation Round Up. The ORU program collects money for charitable causes by rounding up participating members’ electric bills to the next highest dollar amount, with the extra change used to fund grants for agencies and individuals in need. That “small change” makes a big difference in our community!

OUTAGE UPDATE: Unfortunately, a tree fell on the power line causing the outage. Crews will remove the tree and make repairs as safely and quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience.

We currently have an outage affecting approximately 624 meters north of Spanish Fort on Highway 225. Crews are en route to determine the cause of the outage and restore power as safely and quickly as possible.

In May, we recognize National Electrical Safety Month to raise awareness about reducing electrically related fires, injuries and fatalities. Here are a few important safety tips to keep in mind:

•Never use electrical equipment near water.
•Check all light bulbs to ensure the wattage is safe and suitable for the fixture.
•Extension cords are for temporary use only; never run them under rugs, through walls or across doorways.
•Do not plug too many devices into a single outlet or power strip.

We had an incredible time at Career Day at Foley Elementary School! We brought the bucket truck, and the students brought the energy, curiosity, and excitement. It was a great day connecting with and educating our future leaders!
