When action was needed, Sumter Foreman Dock Kirby didn't hesitate.

While traveling home from work, Dock witnessed a serious car accident and immediately stopped to help. After checking on the driver of the first vehicle, he rushed to assist the occupant of the overturned vehicle, breaking out a window to help them safely exit.

His quick thinking, courage, and willingness to help others reflect the character and commitment we value every day, and we proudly presented Dock with the Sumter President's Safety Coin. Great job, Dock.

Night work on Maybank Highway in Johns Island, SC.

Sumter crews are out performing reconduct work on distribution lines to help strengthen and improve system reliability in the area.

Due to the high-frequency of roadway traffic, crews are flipping the script on their typical work schedule and working in the dark to make sure the lights get powered up.

Rain or shine, the Sumter Utilities team was proud to take part in the 2026 5K-Aden race in Columbia, South Carolina, on May 2, benefiting the Jordan Thomas Foundation. 🏃‍♂️💙

The race holds special meaning for the Sumter Utilities family, as it is named in honor of Kaden, the stepson of Sumter Utilities President Derek O’Bradovich, who lost his leg in a boating accident several years ago. This event continues to make a meaningful impact by helping provide prosthetic devices and support for children living with limb loss.

Each year, Sumter Utilities recognizes its safest, most dedicated crews with the President's Safety Professional of the Year (PSPY) Award. To be eligible, a crew must complete all four quarters of the year without a single safety incident. From that group, leadership selects those who have truly gone above and beyond.
