It's not often we see our line crews working right at Sumter headquarters, but when the power goes out, we move fast. ⚡

At around 11 PM on the evening of March 2, a civilian vehicle slammed into a pole in front of the Sumter Utilities office. By 1 AM on March 3, Gary Avins’ Crew (533) and Corey Owens’ Crew (610, led by A-Lineman Myers Noyes) were on site. Three phases of wire were down along N. Pike West, cutting across a major highway, and the crews had it all cleared and secured by 10 AM.

Even during a prolonged outage, our generators kept Sumter HQ running full steam, so our team could continue supporting the field and the communities we serve. Thank you to our Sumter crews for stepping up and getting the job done, right on our own turf.

We're wrapping up Construction Safety Week with a shoutout to Aaron Smith and Crew 719 out of Georgia.

This crew earned a 2026 President's Coin for demonstrating exactly what safety leadership looks like in the field. When the job called for it, they called an "All Stop" and took the time to build capacity before moving forward. That kind of decision-making requires awareness, discipline, and the confidence to do the right thing even when it slows things down for a moment.

We're proud of this team for using their voice and keeping safety at the forefront of every task.

Aaron Smith, Foreman
Brock Maynor, General Foreman
Derek Lee, VP of Operations
Dalton Farlow, Apprentice
Dylan Smith, Lineman
Cody Mason, Apprentice
Brett Shiver, Safety Coordinator
Dustin Loggins, Lineman

That's a wrap on Construction Safety Week 2026. To every Sumter employee who shows up and works safely every day, this week is for you!

This Construction Safety Week, we're highlighting a few Sumter crews who earned the 2026 President's Safety Coin, and this one goes to Timmy Morris and his crew.

During a recent line pole changeout, Sumter Crew 424 followed its JTSA process and inspected not only the pole being replaced but also the adjacent poles. It's a good thing they did.

One of the neighboring poles was weathered and split at the top, a serious hazard that could have turned into a catastrophic event on the job site.

Hats off to this crew for going above and beyond and preventing a potentially hazardous situation!

Timmy Morris, Foreman
Austin Morris, Lineman A
Jacob "Gene" Morris, Lineman B
Ethan Cooper, Equipment Operator
Walker L. Partee, Truck Driver

Stay tuned this week as we continue highlighting the Sumter employees who make safety a priority every day.

This coin is reserved for those who go above and beyond to protect themselves and their team while doing the job right, approaching every task with a safety-first mindset.
