UPDATE: With the wild weather in the forecast (scattered t-storms, heat, humidity, and potential flooding), we will be meeting at our alternate indoor venue rather than on the trail.
Please join us at the Currie Club House: 3535 N Mayfair Rd, Wauwatosa, WI 53222, today, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for “Nearly” Trailside Chats and learn more about habitat restoration efforts in the Little Menomonee River Parkway.
You may have seen some big changes along the river, as our crews have been hard at work enhancing habitat and clearing a path to healthier and happier adventures outside.
Meet our project team and chat with experts from Eco-Resource Consulting, Inc. RES, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Milwaukee County Parks AOC Program. They will be answering your questions about ongoing activities, including prescribed fire, which may be taking place in the Parkway this fall between Appleton & Hampton Ave. While we can’t walk today, you can hang out, make a souvenir pin, and learn how this work ties to multiple projects restoring 1,000+ acres in the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern.

Sign up today to collect native seed at the Dane County Landfill Prairie! Dane County is one of the only locations in the country to have established native vegetation on a landfill site, supporting pollinator habitat and other ecosystem services. ERC is proud to manage this site. Go check it out!

Due to strong rains and thunderstorms in the forecast, we are postponing our Wednesday, August 5th Trailside Chat about the Little Menomonee River Parkway Habitat Restoration.
We are rescheduling for September and hope to meet you back on the trail to share updates and see progress in person. With the unpredictable and intense weather this year, we will also secure an alternate indoor location, just in case!
You will still be able to meet our project team, get your questions answered, and learn about ongoing activities, including prescribed fire, which may be taking place in the Parkway this fall between Appleton & Hampton Ave.

We had a great time, learned new things, and networked with some awesome folks at the Johnson's Nursery “Connecting People & Plants” event! The speakers and panelists were engaging and inspiring! Thanks to Johnson’s for putting a unique event like this together to connect native plant nerds, I mean practitioners, from all different backgrounds 😜🌱💚

Register today for a free guided hike at the Ho**ig Greenseams property to celebrate Land Trust Days and 25 years of the MMSD Greenseams Program! The almost 73 acre Ho**ig site features the Little Menomonee Creek and is a critical area for managing rainwater and wildlife habitat. ERC has been conducting ecological management on this project site for two years including invasive species management, forestry mowing, and native seeding. We even got to oversee the first prescribed burn on the site since 2018! Don't miss out!

Field Find Friday and National Moth Week! We were SO excited to stumble across this recently emerged Cecropia moth pumping its wings on a snag along the Menomonee River while we were out conducting tree canopy surveys. The Cecropia moth is the largest moth in North America. They are secretive, nocturnal, and live as adults for only about 1 to 2 weeks 😍

Last week, ERC Technicians braved the heat and installed erosion control material and native plugs for two bioretention basins in Badger Prairie County Park. The interior of the basins were planted with a variety of native species that thrive in wet conditions but can tolerate drier periods, including blue vervain, blue flag iris and boneset. Once established, their deep, extensive root systems will help absorb runoff and pollutants from the adjacent parking lot and allow increased infiltration rates during major storm events and reduce flooding. The side slopes surrounding the basins were also planted with native plugs to prevent soil erosion and improve stormwater uptake. These plantings will offer an aesthetically pleasing look while playing a vital role in managing storm water.
