Happy Friday! We had a great question this week and wanted to share some information about our steel tubing that you may not know. As you can see, our tubing is rusty! But don't worry, we aren't building with faulty steel. The "rust" is actually just surface level & it forms because of a process called Passivation. Passivation is a metal finishing process, a chemical treatment bath to remove surface contaminants, then forming a protective oxide layer that becomes corrosion resistant... In simple terms, the "surface rust" is actually a strong, protective layer over the inner steel. When the steel becomes scratched, this layer "self-heals", reforming over the scratch protecting the structure of the tubing. So maybe not the prettiest to look at but this is exactly what makes our steel so durable and long-lasting! You can also find this same process on the popular A606/ Corten steel. Learn something new everyday eh? Have a great weekend !!
