We designed Telepresence to help surgeons teach and learn across distances. Weโ€™re enhancing that experience with two new features in our latest da Vinci 5 update.

A Tower camera gives remote observers a view of the operating room setup and care team in action. Viewers can pan and zoom the room view with a toggle to the console view.

The new live cursor allows remote observers to place and move a cursor on the surgeonโ€™s console view. The cursor helps simplify communication between the surgeon and remote viewers.

Patients first, always. This principle guides everything we do at Intuitive. We develop technology with the patient in mind, and we collaborate alongside surgeons to help expand access to minimally invasive care.

Until now, evidence comparing surgical approaches for benign conditions has been spread across thousands of studies. The Benign COMPARE Study, published in Annals of Surgery Open, pooled data from 366 published studies representing nearly 14 million patients across da Vinci, laparoscopic, and open approaches. It is one of the most comprehensive assessments to date.

Based on aggregated data across 13 benign procedures, it was indicated that da Vinci surgery is associated with lower conversion rates compared to laparoscopic surgery and shorter hospital stays compared with laparoscopic and open surgery.

How can you empower women in surgery?

For surgeons, it can be by providing them the resources or tools to take on moreโ€”from routine gynecologic procedures to the most complex cases.

For patients, it could mean helping to increase access to more choices, including knowing when da Vinci surgery may be an option.
