We were honored to be part of Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony for the new Iron Workers Local 512 training center in Hermantown. The facility will add training space for 512's apprenticeship program, which is growing thanks to greater demand for iron workers across the region.

Lakehead is proud to be general contractor for the project, which is scheduled to be completed this fall.

It's a day of big transitions here at Lakehead. Billing Manager Kyle H. is retiring today after 35 years with the company. He's been a dedicated worker, a solid manager, and an all-around great person to work with. We will miss him - but the good news is he has a great replacement in Mandi A., who steps into the role of Billing Manager after 5 years with us. Congratulations to both of you on these new phases of your lives!

We've got a dream team at the SME Minnesota Conference this week in Duluth! A big thanks to Kirk, Aaron, Andy and everyone on the Lakehead team who is attending events there this week. It's a great way to show support for one of the industries that supports us.

We are incredibly honored to be included on this beautiful donor wall at the new offices of the Association of Associated General Contractors of Minnesota. They are an amazing organization that we have been involved with for decades - and we look forward to partnering with them for many more.

We're closing out Women in Construction Week feeling energized and grateful for the amazing women working in our field. The week was filled with networking opportunities and community outreach, thanks to the Twin Ports/Iron Range chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.

Special thanks goes to Lakehead Project Manager Rhiannon Klein, who helped plan activities and hosted a craft night and networking event at our main offices. Thanks also to Ashley Nelson and her daughter for connecting with elementary school students in Hermantown.

Last but not least, a BIG THANKS to the many women working at Lakehead and pictured in red below - we couldn't do business without you! Thank you for being amazing ambassadors and promoting careers in construction.

Lakehead Friends and Family - look who was featured by the AGC of Minnesota for Women in Construction Week! None other than our own Rhiannon Klein. It's well deserved recognition for an amazing member of our team. Congratulations, Rhiannon, and thank you for all you do at and outside of work to promote careers for women in construction!

Encouraged by a high school science teacher to pursue a career that would make use of her strong math and science skills, Rhiannon Klein toured Iron Range Engineering, and signed up for classes the very same day. Drawn to courses in Project Management and Lean Construction, she was hired for a project engineer position at Lakehead Constructors, Inc. after graduating. Eight years later, she’s still with Lakehead, now working in a Project Management role.

Rhiannon says the best thing about the construction industry is the variety of work. She enjoys experiencing different projects and constantly learning new things - all without having to change careers.

She also notes that imposter syndrome can impact women in construction in ways men may not experience. Rhiannon credits an incredible mentor for helping build her confidence and supporting her growth into leadership roles. Today, she serves as Secretary of the NAWIC - Twin Ports/Iron Range Chapter and is active in promoting opportunities for women in the industry.
