🐉As Barker's Island Marina comes alive for the 2026 Lake Superior Dragon Boats Festival, it's exciting to see so many people gathering along a waterfront that AMI has helped shape and improve for more than a decade.
Since 2010, AMI has partnered with the City of Superior on projects throughout the Barker’s Island Complex, including the marina, beach, trails, public facilities, and the historic ship museum.
Our 6.74-acre Beach Restoration Project improved water quality through enhanced stormwater management, native vegetation plantings, wetland restoration, pervious pavement, and other sustainable design features. We also designed new restroom facilities, pet waste stations, and additional garbage receptacles to support a cleaner, healthier shoreline experience.
At Barker’s Island Marina, AMI has provided planning, engineering, and construction management services for major facility upgrades, including dock improvements, utility upgrades, and slip reconfigurations. We also designed a travel lift containment system that helps prevent pollutants and invasive species from entering the harbor, supporting the marina’s participation in the Wisconsin Clean Marina Program.
Whether you're racing, cheering from the shoreline, or simply enjoying the day on the waterfront, the Dragon Boat Festival is a great reminder of everything Barker’s Island has to offer.
Good luck to all the teams competing this weekend!
