We are thrilled to host an opportunity for women to pursue careers in skilled trades this Saturday, August 17, 12-4 p.m. on the back lawn of Flint City Hall. If you are a woman interested in skilled trades, you can get connected with free resources to help you pursue an apprenticeship.

Flint WIST Day 2024 is organized by the Michigan AFL-CIO Workforce Development Institutes’ (WDI) Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) Apprenticeship Readiness Program.

The event is designed to encourage and empower women seeking employment in unionized skilled trades and to discuss the opportunities and challenges within the skilled trades industry.

Lyric Fakhoury, a senior at Swartz Creek High School, has successfully passed the IBEW aptitude test for electricians, which involves both math and reading sections. She now progresses to the interview stage, with hopes of being selected for their 4-year apprenticeship program. This program offers a practical, learn-on-the-job experience alongside a full scholarship. Lyric aims to become a residential electrician. Congratulations, Lyric!
