Why do I love being a contractor?
4 Reasons.....
1) I get to provide people with living wage jobs
Providing jobs and opportunities to people so that they can take care of thier families is an amazing feeling. I am never directly told, but the stories usually come back to me. Because of Chmabers Bay, people have been able to afford Christmas gifts for their kids, turkey dinner for thanksgivings, money to help elderly family members, one guy needed a new well so his family could have running running water. Being able to provide opportunity and hope to people is a blessing.
2) I get to share my knowledge
I have a vast knowledge bank about building. I have built anything from a bridge to multi story building, fine finish to concrete foundations. I enjoy passing on what I know and teaching people around me. Often my employees end up with the knowledge and confidence to strike out on their own forming their own little companies. I am never upset by this, it is the best feeling ever knowing that they are out doing it.
3) I get to rescue former jobs
Chambers bay has been called on so many times to step in and identify and fix complex problems. Jobs that were either messed up by others or complex repairs that require complex solutions. It is the best feeling when the at first apprehensive project owner see the completed project and is in awe that it was pulled off and it looks better then when the project started.
4) I get to design
Having the ability to design projects is close to my most favorite thing. I love bringing in a creative eye and challenging the space with different ideas. I also love looking at and buying land that is difficult to build on, cliff sides, water mitigation sites, ect… they challenge modern design norms and need creative building methods to pull them off.
