Building the Future of Energy—One Hands-On Experience at a Time!

On October 1st, the Florida Energy Workforce Consortium (FEWC) teamed up with Lake-Sumter State College to host GIRL POWER at the LSSC Sumter Center!

To bridge the talent gap and build a stronger, more diverse talent pipeline for the utility industry, this event gave young women from local high schools a completely immersive, hands-on look at high-demand technical careers.

Instead of just listening to a presentation, these students rolled up their sleeves and actively participated in simulated tasks across critical energy sectors, including:

• Linework & Pole Construction
• Relay & Substation Technology
• Cable Splicing
• Cable Locate
• Commercial Driving (CDL)
• Engineering

The day also included an inspiring panel discussion featuring trailblazing women in energy, proving that there is a powerful seat at the table for women in utility operations and trades.

The Florida Energy Workforce Consortium invites our partners to learn more about energy workforce programs and best practices across our state. We'll learn about the innovative education to employment pipeline and Palm Beach State College have developed, meet students enrolled in the program, and hear from Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) about new career awareness resources. Many thanks to our host Reworld. The meeting will begin at 9:00am with continental breakfast and adjourn at 3:30pm. A detailed agenda will follow along with hotel information.
