If you're thinking about replacing your air conditioning system, keep in mind there are some great incentives thru TECO's rebate program Listed below is some information regarding qualifying equipment.

Tampa Electric's Heating and Cooling program lets you earn a rebate when you replace your old, inefficient ducted air conditioning system with a new, energy-efficient system that meets our energy-saving requirements. This program is available to all residential customers.

Qualifying systems include:

A SEER (16.00) or SEER2 (15.20) is required for a rebate of ($40)
Heat pumps – Minimum SEER (16.00) or SEER2 (15.20)
Straight cool/natural gas heat – Minimum SEER (16.00) or SEER2 (15.20) (new furnace required, propane gas does not qualify)
Geothermal systems – 14.00 EER or greater
A SEER (17.00) or SEER2 (16.20) is required for a rebate of ($550)
Heat pumps – Minimum SEER (17.00) or SEER2 (16.20)
Straight cool/natural gas heat – Minimum SEER (17.00) or SEER2 (16.20) (new furnace required, propane gas does not qualify)
Geothermal systems – 15.00 EER or greater

During this cold weather you may notice your heat pump acting a little different. This is the automatic defrost cycle. During this cycle the outdoor unit will shut down and make some strange noises, you may even see some steam coming up from the unit! It's not smoke we promise! The auxiliary heat strips will come on to help maintain the temperature in your home and you may smell a slight burning smell from the heat strips. This is all a normal process, just let the system run it's course and it will resume standard operation once the cycle is complete!
This will continue off and on throughout this cold snap.
