The Seal Looks Good — But Is It Really? Understanding Seal Integrity

A bag comes off your packaging line. The seal looks perfect.
Straight. Uniform. Completely closed.
But does that mean the seal is actually strong and reliable? Not necessarily! In industrial packaging, seal integrity depends on several factors working together. Even small variations can make a difference.

🔥 Temperature Matters
Too little heat can create weak seals. Too much can damage the packaging material. Finding the correct temperature for your particular bag material is essential.

⚙️ Pressure Makes a Difference
The sealing surfaces need consistent pressure to bond properly. Uneven or excessive pressure can compromise the finished seal.

⏱️ Speed and Contact Time
Faster isn't always better! The packaging material needs sufficient contact time with the heating elements. Increasing production speed without adjusting the sealing conditions can affect seal quality.

📏 Seal Width Matters, Too!

Did you know that seal width can make a difference?
For heavier products or bags featuring hang holes for retail display, choosing the appropriate seal width and placement is particularly important.

Gas Flush Packaging: When Does Your Product Actually Need It?
You've probably seen gas flush listed as an option on packaging equipment—but does your product actually need it?
Gas flushing replaces almost all much of the atmospheric air inside a package with a controlled gas, commonly nitrogen. Reducing the oxygen inside the package can help protect oxygen-sensitive products, maintain freshness and extend shelf life.
It's particularly useful for products such as coffee, snacks, pet treats, nuts, dry foods and certain powdered ingredients.
If your product isn't particularly sensitive to oxygen, has a short distribution cycle, or doesn't require an extended shelf life, a properly sealed package without gas flushing may be all that is needed.
And gas flushing isn't the same as vacuum packaging.
Gas flush displaces the atmosphere. Vacuum removes air. Depending on the product, you may need one, the other, or both.

Our Q800CG combines gas/nitrogen flushing with industrial bag sealing and a synchronized product conveyor. The Q800CGV adds vacuum capability for applications where both vacuum and gas flush are beneficial.
