🤔How BIG can you go?!?!

These 80’ trusses are the widest we have done on a pole barn!

Although we most commonly use wood (happy to explain why), we are actually the distributor in our region for metal trusses! Each has its own unique pros and cons so we choose what is best in each given situation and for each specific customer/build!

GENERALLY, around 60’ wide is the tipping point where we go from more often doing wood to more often doing metal. However, in this specific build, the 80’ wide wood made sense!

Let us not just make recommendations because “that is how it has always been done” but rather EXPLAIN the options to you and help you CHOOSE what is best for you!

One thing we spend a lot of time discussing is insulation and what is best for a Barndo or metal clad building of any sort.

It is critical to understand SCIENCE! If you do not, things will fail and ignorant folks will blame the product, when the plan was the problem!

Do you understand:
Sweating in metal buildings?
Closed cell vs open cell insulation?
Proper situations for fiberglass?
What creates mold?
What allows condensation to form?

Some of you may know that I am also an orthopedic surgeon in addition to being a Class A licensed contractor! While construction is not quite surgery, my science background and using scientific methods leads me to ask “WHY?” and understand construction—specifically insulation—on a deeper level.

Do NOT hire a contractor that says “This is just how we do it.” Hire one that can EXPLAIN to you WHY they do it!

As I have gotten into construction, I am absolutely dumbfounded at the number of contractors who cannot explain to me why they do what they do!!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

We would be happy to discuss it and share our opinions on your next project! We do not have all the answers, but when something we are uncertain about arises, we find FACTS and do not just say “This is just how we do it.”

Call us biased, but we think you would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful ceiling than this expertly crafted post & beam style timber construction with rough sawn finishes!

10”x10” beams 43’ long were used to build the trusses, followed by 3”x8” rough sawn purlins before sheathing with a mixed width, random pattern of kiln dried white oak, red oak, & poplar!

Whether you need the most basic barn or a complex Taj Mahal we can help!
