Environmental preservation continues to play a major role in the ongoing work at Chase Brook Park in West Yarmouth. Because the project is located near protected wetlands, strict setback requirements and on-site barriers are being used to clearly define work zones and protect sensitive areas throughout construction. Invasive vegetation, including knotweed, mugwort, and invasive trees, is currently being removed by Parterre as part of a long-term restoration effort. The site will also continue to be treated with environmentally safe herbicides over the next three years to help prevent regrowth.

Additional work includes riverbank stabilization, vegetative plantings, stabilized stone dust walking paths, interpretive signage, and construction of a timber pedestrian bridge, all focused on improving the site while preserving the surrounding environment.

Successful grading requires more than equipment, it requires precision.
At Chase Brook Park in West Yarmouth, the team is utilizing GPS technology to accurately establish pathway locations and elevations across the site while ensuring all walkways meet ADA compliance standards. With limited existing fixed points throughout the property, the GPS system plays a critical role in helping the crew achieve the required grades and maintain long-term accessibility. Current work also includes pathway subbase installation, soil placement and grading, riverbank stabilization, invasive management with Parterre, and preparation for a timber pedestrian bridge and stabilized walking paths throughout the park.

The finished walkway is only as good as the base underneath it. 👀
At Chase Brook Park in West Yarmouth, we’re using inch-and-a-half dense grade aggregate from Cape Cod Aggregates to build a 6–8 inch structural base for the stabilized stone dust pathways throughout the site. That base helps prevent settling and heaving so the walkways stay stable long-term. Current work also includes riverbank stabilization, grading, invasive management, and prep for future park furnishings, with a timber pedestrian bridge and vegetative plantings still to come. 🚧

Jay walks through some of the equipment used in the field, including a Doosan 85 mini excavator with rubber tracks for working on pavement, a Morooka tracked dump truck built for soft ground conditions, a screener processing material on-site, and one of the most versatile machines out there, the skid steer. The right equipment makes all the difference when it comes to productivity, access, and getting the job done right.
