Jay walks through some of the equipment used in the field, including a Doosan 85 mini excavator with rubber tracks for working on pavement, a Morooka tracked dump truck built for soft ground conditions, a screener processing material on-site, and one of the most versatile machines out there, the skid steer. The right equipment makes all the difference when it comes to productivity, access, and getting the job done right.

Started as a stonemason at 20. Now helping run major heavy civil and environmental projects. 👏
Jay works as the connection between the field crews and project managers, helping keep everything moving from start to finish. From revetments and jetties to massive rock placement projects, the work still reminds him of where he started, just on a way bigger scale.
That’s what makes this industry great. Every project is different.

Work continues at Chase Brook Park in West Yarmouth as the site is transformed into a connected public space focused on accessibility, restoration, and long-term durability. Current work includes stabilized stone dust pathway construction, riverbank stabilization, soil placement and grading, invasive species management with Parterre, and concrete pads for future park furnishings. The project will also feature a 40-foot timber pedestrian bridge, vegetative plantings, and interpretive signage throughout the park.

This project is another example of the detailed sitework, environmental coordination, and craftsmanship that go into building spaces designed to serve the community for years to come.

Precision matters on projects like this. The crew recently completed the installation of 4,500-pound granite treads while working against an incoming tide. Using a vacuum compressor capable of lifting over 5,600 pounds, each tread was carefully maneuvered into place and secured using epoxy threaded rods and a mortar base.

This type of work requires patience, coordination, and trust between the entire crew. Shoutout to Jordan, Justin, Adam, and everyone involved in helping bring this section of the project together safely and efficiently. 👏

A big part of construction is solving problems before they become bigger ones.
As part of this coastal project, a headwall was installed at the top of the site to help manage drainage coming from the street while also supporting the toe of the slope.
After excavation, the existing slope began to destabilize and slough during rainstorms, creating erosion concerns. To correct this, the team added a swale and drainage connection designed to safely redirect water flow out toward the ocean. It’s the behind-the-scenes infrastructure like this that helps keep projects stable and built to last.👏

Meet Rob Mandelar, Project Manager at Luciano’s Excavation.

With 10–12 years of experience in heavy construction and a background in civil engineering, Rob has been an important part of the Luciano’s team for the last several years. He primarily manages coastal projects, while also helping oversee the company’s site work and ecological restoration efforts.
One thing Rob values most about Luciano’s is the family atmosphere and team culture. In an environment where everyone wears multiple hats, having people willing to step in and support one another makes all the difference.

Even in a project management role, Rob still enjoys getting out in the field and staying hands-on when he can. We’re proud to have dedicated people like Rob helping drive these projects forward. 👏

The Wessagussett Beach coastal protection project in Weymouth is nearing completion, and we’re proud to see everything coming together.🌊 This project included the installation of a large stone revetment for shoreline protection, new public beach access stairs, residential staircases, drainage infrastructure, a connecting walkway to George Lane Beach, and restoration work along the slope.

With nearly 9,000 tons of stone placed and pieces weighing up to 6 tons, every section had to be carefully fitted together to create a long-lasting solution built to withstand the elements.

Great work by the entire crew involved in bringing this project to life.👏

Wessagusset Beach from a different point of view. 🌊🚧
Drone shots capturing the progress from above as the crew continues shoreline and seawall work along the waterfront. Projects like this take precision, planning, and a team willing to work with the tides to get it done right. Proud to be part of improving and protecting this stretch of coastline for the community.
