10 Monumental Projects | #2: ATB Oliver Leavitt

Some projects stand out for their scale. Others stand out for what they represent. The articulated tug-barge (ATB) Oliver Leavitt does both.

Named in honor of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation's early leader, Dr. Oliver Aveogan Leavitt, the vessel reflects a legacy of leadership, service, and dedication to the North Slope Iñupiat community.

This landmark vessel preservation project carried special meaning for the US Coatings team. The work supported the maritime industry while honoring Dr. Leavitt's lasting contributions and the impact of his leadership.

A team of 75 employees blasted and painted more than 575,164 square feet of steel, using more than 2,300 tons of abrasive and applying 9,975 gallons of paint. That's enough paint to repaint the White House about 17 times.

For many employees, this project became a defining moment, reinforcing the scale of the work they do and the impact it has on customers, communities, and the maritime industry.

The ATB Oliver Leavitt remains one of the most memorable projects in US Coatings' history and a testament to the craftsmanship, dedication, and teamwork that brought it to life.

10 Monumental Projects | Employee Highlight #3

As part of our 10 Monumental Projects series, we're highlighting the people behind the work.

For Mike Wawers, this project represented an important milestone in his career at Mavo.

"This was the first large-scale project I managed, and it gave me the opportunity to learn a great deal about leading multiple crews while ensuring the work progressed safely and efficiently."

The project also carried special meaning because of the impact it made on the community, transforming a former industrial site into a natural prairie grass area while improving the surrounding landscape.

"My experience at Mavo has allowed me to grow from a crew member, to running small one-day jobs, and now to managing large demolition projects with multiple crews."

Projects like this showcase not only the work we do, but the people who continue to grow and develop while helping shape Mavo's success.

10 Monumental Projects | #3

Some projects transform more than a jobsite. They transform an entire community.

For Mavo, one of the most impactful projects in company history involved the demolition and environmental remediation of a 480,000-square-foot, three-story industrial facility. The project removed hazardous materials, improved environmental conditions, and paved the way for the site to be returned to a more natural state.

What was once an aging industrial property was transformed into a prairie grass landscape, creating a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming space for the surrounding community.
The scale of the project was significant, requiring careful planning, coordination, and ex*****on to safely complete demolition and remediation activities while maintaining a strong focus on environmental stewardship.

Fun Fact: At 480,000 square feet, the facility was larger than eight football fields combined.
Projects like this demonstrate how demolition and environmental remediation can create lasting benefits long after the work is complete.

Some projects are monumental not because of what can be seen above ground, but because of what happens below it.

For K2 Industrial, hydro excavation has become a critical service that protects underground infrastructure while helping communities avoid costly disruptions. By using non-destructive excavation methods, crews can safely expose utilities without damaging critical assets, reducing the risk of outages and improving safety for workers and the public.

This work plays an important role in keeping essential services running while minimizing impacts to residents, businesses, and the infrastructure they rely on every day. Whether supporting utility projects, infrastructure improvements, or emergency response efforts, hydro excavation provides a safer and more precise approach to excavation.

Fun Fact: K2 crews have excavated more than 10 million cubic yards of material, enough to build nearly three Great Pyramids of Giza.

Projects like these demonstrate how innovation, safety, and precision can work together to deliver lasting value for customers and communities.

As part of our 10 Monumental Projects series, we're recognizing the people behind the work.

For one AIS Infrastructure team member, the Basilone Road project provided valuable experience managing a complex roadway realignment that involved 10-15 different scopes of work and close coordination across multiple teams.

"Being involved in the entirety of the project from start to finish provided me a clear vision on how so many moving parts had to come together to keep the project progressing while holding a very tight schedule."
The experience reinforced the importance of communication, collaboration, and attention to detail while creating opportunities for continued professional growth.

"Each new opportunity has challenged me to continue learning and expanding my capabilities."

Projects like Basilone Road showcase not only the infrastructure we build, but the people who help make it possible.
