How does a Catco catalytic heater create heat without an open flame?

Electrical power preheats the catalyst, fuel gas enters the heater, and oxygen from the surrounding air helps complete the catalytic reaction.

The result is flameless infrared heat that can be directed toward valves, regulators, and other equipment to help prevent freezing and maintain operating temperatures.

When gas experiences a significant pressure drop, its temperature can decrease as well. Add moisture to the equation, and freezing can quickly become an operational problem.

Why do gas regulators ice over? ❄️

When high-pressure gas drops to a lower pressure, the temperature drops too. This is called the Joule-Thomson Effect, and it can cause regulators, valve bodies, and other pressure points to frost or ice over.

Once equipment freezes, gas flow can be restricted or stop completely which is why directed heat matters.
