Today we celebrated the retirement of Gary Wortham, who has served as Manufacturing Manager for Xylem's Smith-Blair brand.

For the last decade, Gary led our manufacturing team with steady hands and a deep commitment to the quality that defines everything we build. Behind every clamp, coupling, tapping sleeve, and fitting that leaves our facility is a team Gary helped shape.

Gary, thank you for 9.5 years of leadership. We wish you the very best as you start this next chapter. Enjoy every minute because you've earned it.

James Gibson is the new Territory Manager for Xylem's Smith-Blair products in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, the Florida Panhandle, and Western Tennessee.

He has spent his career showing up when things go wrong. He particularly enjoys fielding the calls that carry gravity, the ones where a large-diameter coupling is leaking or a bridge crossing has failing expansion joints, and he drops everything to get there fast.

His path to Smith-Blair started at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, where he ran field tests when fish kills or industrial discharges fouled the water. From there he moved through coating plants, US Pipe's estimating division, and other jobs in manufacturing. One unique fact about James' background is he once sketched a coupling for a million-dollar project in Egypt that is still used today.

James spent the last decade working at Consolidated Pipe, where he became known as "The Demo Guy", building three trailers, one with a button that set a ball joint moving and a lexan booth that simulated a restraint pull test. He would rather show a product working than describe it.

Off the clock, James pastors a church in Tuscaloosa, AL and has done some form of ministry work since the 1980s, from prison visits to hospital calls. He writes theological papers, golfs, and takes his two children and nine grandchildren tubing on the water. He even helped his son and son-in-law, both military veterans, find their footing in the waterworks industry.

When a project is on the line and the clock is ticking, James is the person who makes sure nothing sits unanswered. Bring him your toughest field problem, and he will sketch you a solution.

Samantha Howard is the new territory manager for Xylem's Smith-Blair water products serving the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri.

She grew up understanding the ins and outs of a water supply house. Her father ran one, decorated with PVC end tables and old Rockwell meter lamps. At a young age, she went to work for her father. Now an outside sales representative with Xylem's Smith-Blair, she brings 30 years of knowledge in the water works industry to every distributor, utility, and municipality she serves.

After her father sold the family business, she spent time at Wichita Winwater. She spent the last 17 years with Core and Main before making the move to Xylem. She's proud that she's sold Smith-Blair pipe fittings for the entirety of her 30-year career, and Sensus meters for the last 17 years. She describes her own trajectory in the water industry simply: she's been a princess and now is often lovingly called the queen of water works by those who know her best.

The industry runs through her family. Her husband works the same kind of job for a water products distributor, and between them, four uncles and six cousins have spent time in the business, three of whom she still runs into at industry conferences.

Samantha went to college for interior decorating and never pictured herself working with pipe products designed to join, repair, and tap pipe. Three decades in what's still largely a man's industry changed that.

She is a problem solver who can't imagine a job spent not talking to people. Samantha has already hit the ground running meeting customers across her territory, and she looks forward to helping them find the right solutions to all of their pipe project needs.

Every day, millions of gallons of water and natural gas flow through pipelines across the globe. Flexi-Coat is one of the unique aspects of Xylem's Smith-Blair products that engineers, utility operators, and municipal teams rely on to keep those pipelines running safely and efficiently.

Our unique fusion-bonded epoxy coating has been protecting Smith-Blair pipe fittings since 1997, providing a layer of protection for steel and cast products from corrosion in water, wastewater, and natural gas distribution systems.

Flexi-Coat is NSF 61 & 372 approved, meets AWWA C213 and C550 standards, and is tested daily for mil-thickness, impact, and flexibility.

The 372 Service Saddle is designed to make service connections on PVC pipe. It's double-bolt all stainless steel design with 7½" wide band and bonded outlet gasket means it is built to distribute clamping load uniformly.

What makes it work for crews:
1. Keeper bar helps pull the clamp around the pipe and close it during installation
2. Outlet gasket bonded into the band provides optimum sealing efficiency
3. Outlet gasket has hydro-mechanical lip that improves sealing as pipeline pressure increases
4. One saddle covers both iron pipe size and Ductile Iron O.D. pipe within the same nominal size to reduce inventory

When you need service saddles for PVC pipe, the 372 Service Saddle delivers. All Type 304 stainless steel construction with fluorocarbon finished nuts, works up to 150 PSI depending on size and application, -20°F to 180°F temperature range, and installs on Steel, Ductile Iron, Cast Iron, Asbestos Cement, and PVC with tap sizes from ½" through 2" available in NPT and CC threads.

The 913 Flanged Coupling Adapter connects plain end pipe to fl**ged valves and fittings without field fabrication. Fabricated steel construction with integral fl**ge on one end and compression coupling on the other makes it perfect to create a compact fitting to meters, valves or equipment.

What makes it work for crews:
1. No need for field fabrications
2. Provides quick removal and reinstallation of fl**ged fittings already in line for maintenance without cutting pipe
3. Optional anchor studs provide joint restraint capability to secure the plain pipe end when needed
4. Coupling end relieves stress, absorbs vibration, and accepts deflection in the piping system

When you need to connect plain end pipe to fl**ged equipment, the 913 Flanged Coupling Adapter delivers. Meets AWWA C219 standards, works up to 150 PSI depending on size and design, -20°F to +180°F temperature range, Flexi-Coat fusion bonded epoxy finish per AWWA C213, and installs on Steel, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Asbestos Cement, and PVC pipe.

The 411 Steel Fabricated Coupling joins plain end pipe without welding or special fittings. Bolted sleeve design with carbon steel construction, nitrile gasket, and high strength followers, all designed to keep installation simple on multiple pipe types.

What makes it work for crews:
1. No special pipe end preparation required means faster installations
2. Allows limited expansion and contraction and dampens vibration to reduce pipe fatigue
3. Good deflection capabilities let you change piping direction without elbows or bends
4. Available in a wide variety of sizes and sleeve lengths, and can be custom made for odd O.D.s or unusual applications

When you need couplings for plain end pipe connections, the 411 Steel Fabricated Coupling delivers. Meets AWWA C219 standards, works up to 150 PSI, -20°F to 180°F temperature range, Flexi-Coat fusion bonded epoxy finish, and installs on all pipe types (HDPE requires use of stiffeners).
