This is what serious hydrostatic pressure looks like in real time.

As I headed down the basement stairs, water was literally squirting through the foundation wall and spraying into my hand. This is more than a small leak—the saturated ground outside is forcing water through the block under pressure.

THIS is what constant groundwater pressure looks like. 💧

The water you see running on the left side of this video does not stop. This property sits below a hillside and deals with a continuous groundwater load against the foundation.

What you’re seeing here is NOT the permanent sump basin or pump system. This is temporary water-control equipment being used while we remove the existing improper basin and undersized/improper pump setup and prepare the area for the new permanent system.

In a situation like this, you may not be able to eliminate the groundwater coming toward the home — the solution is designing a system capable of continuously collecting, managing, and discharging that water before it becomes a basement problem.

This is why proper basin sizing, pump capacity, drainage design, and discharge matter.

What’s wrong with this picture?

After excavating this foundation, we found that no SDR drainage pipe had been installed. Without a properly installed SDR footer drain system, water has nowhere to go except against the foundation, creating hydrostatic pressure that can lead to leaks, cracks, and long-term structural damage when the house is only a few months old.
