The Finishing Process Lead position is responsible for assisting with the supervision of shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. This position assists the supervisor in planning and assigning work, implementing policies and procedures and recommending improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

· Maintain a “Visual Management” environment, while continually engaging the work force. Be an active, “On the Floor” leader. Help and assist in the daily activities of Employees.
Line by line hourly checks with an emphasis on “Red” placards.
Leads to be active and on the floor attacking production issues and managing priorities.
Training of finishing operators to include set-up, start up, process trouble-shooting, shutdown, and safety.
Assist in startups and changeovers. Whenever possible the Supervisor/Lead should be on line for the whole startup.
Daily process audits, trouble shooting and assisting finishing operators in maintaining targeted or below target scrap rates.
Training and coaching support team members (i.e. Technicians, Tool Table Operators, Packers, Machine Operators, Inspect Packers, New Employees, Process Technicians, etc.).
a) As an example: teaching support team members to use and properly fill out the end of line/machine boards and displaying the correct color placards.
Keep theproduction area clean and organized.
a) Return any raw materials that is not being used.
b) Keep Gaylord’s for corner boards, film, cardboard, etc. in their proper locations and emptied when necessary.
c) Return unnecessary racks to the warehouse.
d) Assigning cleaning duties to support employees during downtime (sweep and mop floors, wipe down equipment, etc.).
Monitor and achieve setup and teardown times and/or exceed production rate expectations – seek out and recommend opportunities for improvement.
Keep employees on task.
a) If production support personnel are away from their assigned line, the Supervisor / Lead should know why.
b) Monitor break times for ALL personnel, and lead by example (See break time policy).
c) Ensure that Technicians are not allowing their support members to take unauthorized break times.
d) Employees should be at their assigned workstation, maintaining production.
· Responsible for ensuring company policy and procedure are followed by all employees; lead by example (see company work, safety and attendance rules). Supervisors / Leads are responsible for holding employees accountable, as well as the timely completion of coaching and corrective actions. Maintain and administer work rules, and compliance with the union contract.
Help maintain and update all process sheets and process books as necessary to remain current and accurate.
· Help develop and maintain a safe work environment. Maintain and follow all safety standards and rules, while continuously improving safety in the organization.
Responsible for, and support supplying quality parts and service to internal and external customers.
· Assist, audit, maintain and/or complete ISO, plant documentation and procedures. Maintain controls and support for an ISO environment.
· Controlling and reducing downtime, and managing controls to prevent downtime.
· Participate, assist, train employees in team activities (Attack Teams, Lean, NPIT, MRB, ZZ, Safety, Kaizen, and ISO). Participate in team development and team meetings as required.
Improve and maintain the department in lean principles and continuous improvement. Drive change, and help develop the workforce to be lean disciplined. Lead lean projects, and continuous improvements.
Project work including cost improvement, scrap reduction, quality improvements and continuous improvement projects both as a resource and owner.
Assist Manufacturing Engineers in release of new projects into production. Aid Project Engineers in release of new products into production. Be involved in plant trial and PPAP runs.
Participate in line trials and development work for compound trials, engineering changes and backup tool development as required.
· Establish and maintain a standardization program to optimize for all our processes, to nominal conditions.
· Work daily with finishing team members and other management in continuous improvement including, cost improvement, scrap reduction, quality improvement, safety and teamwork.
· Must be knowledgeable of all process specifications and quality levels of all production products. Assist Finishing Supervisor in decision making for quality issues.
· Back-up the Finishing Supervisor in their absence, and perform the required duties to successfully lead the shift.
· Be flexible to work any shift and hours, including overtime as needed on short notice.
· Participate in building a continuous improvement environment.
