If you are an AES Ohio customer, yesterday marked a major milestone.
As of June 1, 2026, AES Ohio’s residential "Price to Compare" jumped to $0.1086 per kWh. This rate fell just a fraction of a cent shy of the 2022 peak ($0.1091/kWh) but generation isn't 100% of your bill.
When you factor in recent increases to distribution rates and transmission riders, AES Ohio customers are now enjoying the highest blended, "all-in" electric rate in the utility's history. Massive data‑center expansion, rising PJM capacity requirements, Big-Beautifully timed investment tax credit cuts, along with a strong Ohio tradition of having year after year net negative flows of electric makes this situation a great supply and demand topic for an econ professor at OSU.
But wait!...there's more! AES Ohio currently has a case before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) seeking ~34% increase in base distribution revenue, with public hearings scheduled for this July. If you want to speak-up, this is the way to do it.
