Here is the truth about old wood fences! ⚖️

Most of them do not actually fail during big storms. They fail quietly, after years of the weather slowly beating them down.

During this wood fence inspection in Toledo, we saw that deveral boards have started developing a green, mossy film along the surface.

That happens when moisture keeps returning to the same sections of wood and the boards never get a chance to fully dry out.

Driveway runs like this are especially vulnerable because snow gets shoveled against the fence all winter, and the melt water just sits right along the base of the boards.

Over time, the wood begins holding that moisture, and that is when the moss and algae move in.

Then there is also the alignment issue in this fence.

Can a bent aluminum fence panel get worse over time?
Yes, and this is a great example of how it starts. 👆🏼

During this aluminum fence inspection in Maumee, Ohio, we found a panel with a bent picket and a bottom rail that was beginning to bow outward.

The rest of the fence was still straight, which made the damaged section even more noticeable. When aluminum fencing is hit or pushed out of shape, the metal holds that stress.

This homeowner called us for fence replacement in Perrysburg Ohio after noticing the bottom of their old wood fence was starting to break down and separate near the base.

The fence was still standing, but the lower boards had been holding moisture for too long and were starting to break down where they sat too close to the ground. A few gaps had started opening between pickets, and that’s usually how bigger problems start.

We removed the old section and built a new wood privacy fence with pressure-treated posts set to proper depth, tight picket spacing, and clean straight runs all the way through.
