What do 3,000 cheesecake pans have to do with leadership?
Earlier in his career, Ed McGrath faced a customer problem that couldn't be solved from behind a desk.
A cheesecake manufacturer was losing production because thousands of aluminum pans were covered in baked-on residue. Over a holiday weekend, Ed showed up with his family and helped hand-scrub roughly 3,000 pans.
Then he kept looking.
The real problem wasn't the cleaning chemistry at all...it was a clogged greasing nozzle on the production line.
It's a story that helped shape a philosophy Ed has carried throughout his career: solving the customer's problem matters more than simply selling the product.
There's much more to the story.
