December 1 is . While there is still much work to be done, today many people with HIV benefit from immunosuppressive and antiretroviral drugs. This is evident in the Pharmacology Department at CHU de Rennes University Hospital in France, where Dr. Florian Lemaitre is using remote Mitra® microsampling devices by Trajan Scientific and Medical in the therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) program. Many HIV patients in this TDM program collect finger-stick blood samples at home and mail them to Dr. Lemaitre's lab for analysis. Benefits include more comfort and convenience for patients, and precise data on drug concentrations for the Pharmacology team, which helps clinicians adjust dosing as needed, to optimize therapeutic drug benefits.

"In this field, we help clinicians maintaining the viral replication to an undetectable level in HIV patients by ensuring adequate drug exposure using TDM. The risk of drug-drug interaction is very important with these drugs, and our colleagues managing HIV patients often seek advice to deal with these issues," Dr. Lemaitre.

In dermatology research, collecting skin biopsies is critical for diagnosing skin conditions, such as skin cancers, skin rashes, lesions and infections. Analysis of a skin biopsy can help identify the underlying cause, enabling healthcare professionals to make informed clinical decisions and choose more targeted treatment approaches. Collecting skin biopsies is easier with a recent advancement called "microbiopsy."

Unlike traditional skin biopsy methods, which can cause pain, scarring and a long recovery for wound healing, the Harpera™ Microbiopsy™ Punch by Trajan Scientific and Medical is a high-precision laser-cut punch device that extracts minimal skin tissue with little to no discomfort & eliminates the need for numbing agents or stitches. Microbiopsy is a non-invasive way to collect micro-sized specimens. Read the blog to learn more. 👇

According to a new study paper published in the of Investigative Dermatology, punch biopsy -- similar to the Harpera™ Microbiopsy Punch by Trajan Scientific and Medical -- could aid researchers in performing skin microsampling for the development of “cutaneous digital twins” from skin biopsies. These "digital twins" could help forecast disease or simulate treatment outcomes. In dermatology, they could enable the study of permeability and diffusion of topical drugs and cosmetics to personalize dermatology treatments.

🛰️ Trajan Scientific and Medical is helping to make space travel safer! 🛰️
🚀 The company's Neoteryx Mitra® microsampling devices are onboard the Polaris Dawn mission, where they're being used to collect blood samples to study how pharmaceuticals are processed differently in space. The spacecraft carrying our technology launched from Kennedy Space Center last night for a 5-day mission. This research conducted while in space will help ensure that astronauts (and civilians) can safely and effectively use medications during long-duration missions.

September 9-13, Event on Skin Disease: Attending XI in Slovenia? Don't miss a presentation by scientists from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic to discuss the results of their study on Leishmaniasis. Vojtkova and Sádlová and their colleagues from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Science at Charles University, Laboratory of Vector Biology, used the Harpera™ skin microbiopsy tool by Trajan Scientific and Medical for a field study in North Africa. They used remote Harpera to better understand the factors influencing outward transmission of Leishmania Parasites. They collected skin microbiopsies from rodents to assess the infectiousness of asymptomatic and symptomatic reservoir hosts by measuring parasite load and distribution in the host body. Get a sneak preview of their findings before publication in Autumn 2024!

WHEN Fertility launched an Egg Count Check Kit within Australia in July 2024 that utilizes Trajan’s Neoteryx Mitra® device based on VAMS® technology for at-home blood sampling. The Mitra blood samples can be mailed to WHEN Fertility's partnering lab for ovarian reserve (egg count) analysis. Egg count analysis gives women an early indication of their fertility status.
WHEN Fertility is working with esteemed gynecologists and fertility specialists Professor William Ledger and Dr. Rachael Rodgers to provide women the information they need to navigate their reproductive health with confidence.
“By identifying women at risk of a depleted egg count earlier, we can help them explore their options and make informed decisions about their fertility journey,” said Professor Ledger.
