When you purchase a brand new home these days you can't, unfortunately, always expect safe, ethical and professional craftsmanship. The "before" pictures are just one example of what is found in brand new homes very, very regularly. This particular home also happens to be a $700k+ example. We were hired for what was supposed to be a very simple pennant light swap. Unfortunately, what was encountered could neither be reused, nor ignored. The existing light fixtures had only been attached to drywall with very short screws. No electrical boxes or other hardware required by code...MINIMUM code standards were ignored. We opened up the ceiling and installed proper electrical enclosures and ensured the wiring is secured properly. THEN, and only then, did we install the new lights. Imagine our valued customers' surprise at hearing about, and then seeing, this botched work. Fortunately, we take pride in, and perform, our work ethically. A lot of other good tradesman do to. Unfortunately, not all people who work on homes are skilled, ethical, or properly supervised. If you're buying a brand new house as it is being constructed, do yourself a big favor and have a PRE drywall inspection completed by an independent home inspector. It's cheap insurance!
