Congratulations to the Grand Traverse Conservation District on the official opening of the Ottaway Crossing Footbridge! GFA recently joined project partners for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of this important milestone in the ongoing restoration of the Natural Education Reserve.

What began has a vision many years ago has now become the keystone feature at the Natural Education Reserve. Spanning 160 feet across the Boardman-Ottaway River at the former Sabin Dam site, the bridge provides a vital connection between miles of popular recreational trails within the Natural Education Reserve and the broader regional trail network.👏🏼

The Elk Rapids Rotary Park Improvements Project is officially complete! 🙌🏼🎉

This project, completed by Molon, includes a new asphalt parking lot, a Board Safe universally accessible kayak launch, a seasonal restroom from Huffcutt Concrete with an adult changing table, the State's first permanent non-motorized boat wash, kayak storage lockers, accessible walkways and numerous other amenities.

This project, which was spearheaded by Paddle Antrim, was made possible with funding from numerous donors and grants from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Combined with an existing launch in Kewadin, this addition completes the first-ever fully accessible point-to-point paddling route on the 100-mile trail system, and provides yet another opportunity for accessible recreation here in Michigan.

GFA is glad to have been part of such a great addition to our community. Congratulations to all involved!

On Tuesday, May 5th, GFA joined project partners and community representatives to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new TCAPS Fieldhouse. The new 120,000 square foot fieldhouse will include a full indoor MHSAA regulation turf field and track, along with additional sports facilities. We are thrilled to be a part of this fantastic addition to our community that will provide year-round opportunities for students. ⚽🏈🥍⚾

The Harrison City Park received a major upgrade just in time for the 2026 Harrison Little League season! ⚾🥎

This Council of Michigan Foundations grant funded project included new accessible parking areas, concrete pathways to provide accessible connectivity throughout the fields, park amenities by Play Environments Design, and a centralized gathering space with a new Huffcutt Concrete concession building and restrooms. GFA provided full engineering, surveying and construction services for this fantastic addition to the City.

These improvements are sure to be well used with a busy Little League season on the horizon!

John is a graduate of Michigan State University and joins GFA after relocated to Traverse City from Chicago with his wife. Prior to beginning his engineering career, John was an Officer in the United States Navy.

Congratulations and Happy Retirement to Marty Alley after nearly 30 years at GFA!

Marty has been an integral part of the GFA Team, beginning his time at GFA as a Construction Technician and moving up to oversee operations of the Construction Services Department for the last decade. To celebrate Marty, an open house will be held at the new GFA office this Thursday from 3-6 PM. We welcome all those to have had the pleasure of working with Marty over the last 3 decades to stop by and celebrate.

Drew recently graduated from Michigan State University with his B.S. in Civil Engineering and now joins GFA's Engineering Department. Drew has spent the last few summers gaining experience on transportation construction projects performing both inspection and testing, and aims to continue his growth in the construction engineering field at GFA. Originally from Bay City, Michigan, you can find him watching or playing sports in his free time.
